AIBU?

To expect NOT to get wireless internet 'waves' coming through the walls from BOTH next door neighbours?

I just got a 2nd hand laptop which I was told is wireless enabled. Well fine I thought but we don't want to go wireless for the same reasons I wouldn't want to live near a pylon.
So imagine my surprise when turning it on, I found I was getting 'a wireless (thingy) has been detected'. Its from next door one way. But then last night we still got it and next door are on hols, so I asked the other neighbour this morning and it was him! So we are getting it through thick brick walls from two directions! I feel like I am getting double the dose of something that I don't want at all!

LOL, it is a bit like being grumpy about the modern world.

Am I being unreasonable to expect not to see these metal horseless carriages bombing around everywhere? Harumph.

lol.. I was setting up a wireless network card and I picked up 6 wireless networks that did not belong to the school where I work.

Go live somewhere without electricity - that'll sort it

p.s. do you have a mobile?

Abu, I am sorry that you seem to take things so seriously. If you had read the whole thread you would have realised that this morning I got out of the wrong side of bed after a wasted day yesterday. A couple of teeny things annoyed me so I had a rant, got some sensible responses from other mners, and my sense of humour was restored before the time you got on my thread.

your neighbours haven't secured their wireless connections. not very smart of them. we can pick up connections in our neighbourhood. you should be able to turn it off so you dont always see what wireless networks it finds. we dont very see the ones we detect unless we look.
personally, i wouldnt worry about it.

persuming you have your own wireless connection, just make sure its secured.

we've recently had to go wireless and I hate it.

it scares me (another thing to add to my "scared of" list) because they may very well be saying ita safe, can't harm you etc etc etc but who know what it will have done to us in 5, 10, 15yrs time?

I really don't like it, not one bit....

We can pickup 10 wireless connections, including our own. 8 (including our own are coded) 2 aren't. What annoys me is my computer connects primarily to one of the unsecured ones (despite being set to connect preferentially to our own), and I have to manually disconnect and then reconnect to ours. I am orried that whilst connected to someone elses they may be able to acess my computer and hence any important info. Is that possible?
