So just saw this on the sun (hey I'm off sick OK, I'm bored).

www.thesun.co.uk/news/8313347/this-morning-guest-obese-pay-more-planes/

Don't obese people already pay for two seats if they are too big?

Plus why if she doesn't want to be stuck between two people didn't she choose her seat before the flight? She wants other people to pay extra, she could have too.

And how do they factor in how many 'larger' seats they need per plane and who gets them? I could book one just for the extra space, is that OK?

I think she is being unreasonable and a bit stupid, well OK very. Grin

Hmm let me guess... this woman has some kind of book or fitness video about to be released and needs some popularity? Katie Hopkins did it by being a twat, so why not her?

Santaclarita · 30/01/2019 17:35

Shallishanti123 that's what I would guess. Dunno why anyone would buy it though.

There are larger seats. In business/first. She should have paid for an upgrade. Fat people are a fact of life, you can’t avoid them so if they bother you then it’s on you to mitigate the risk of that happening by paying for a bigger seat yourself.

Racecardriver there sometimes isn't a business or first class, but she could have bought a second seat.

I can see both sides of this. Yes it must be embarrassing if you don't fit in a standard seat but it is also intolerable if the person in the next seat is encroaching on a usually already cramped space.

The problem is we all want cheap flights which means more seats and less space per passenger.

If someone can't afford to upgrade to ensure enough space should they have to suffer being squeezed next to someone who overspills their seat?

Regardless the woman's attitude was appalling. Acceptable to ask to be moved but not to pass judgement like that.
