Birthday Cards for Men

Greyhound22 · 30/01/2019 13:48

AIBU to think we could maybe have a bit more variety in the choice of cards available for men.

The most annoying ones are the ones with alcohol on them. Wine bottles, beer bottles and witty verses about having 'one too many' not great when looking for someone who lost someone close to them from alcoholism recently or my tee-total friend.

So then you can get a sports car, golf clubs or a garden shed.

Good grief.

I suppose it's the same for women - flowers, shoes or butterflies but I was looking for a man today and getting particularly ratty. In fact I'm not sure why we need male and female cards.

Can someone please come up with something better 😂 or am I overthinking this?

For ds in his 20's I usually get a Moonpig card with pics of his ds on!!
The veg funny ones for other older dc!!
Don't buy cards for anyone but dc!!

Excited101 · 30/01/2019 13:52

You’re buying your cards from the wrong places op!

Babdoc · 30/01/2019 13:54

OP, forget card shops or supermarkets, the choice of cards is desperate. Have a look online - there are hilarious ones that are not knee jerk sex stereotypes - ones you can personalise, fine art ones, blank ones, whatever you want.

BinkyBuntyFintyCunty · 30/01/2019 13:55

OP, you forgot the painted boat scene cards for men too.

Greyhound22 · 30/01/2019 13:55

I would have Moonpigged but left it too late.

Yes you're probably right - village gift shop. They must sell them I suppose - goodness knows who to.

Oh yes the painted boat scene. What all men dream of...

Modern Toss sell cards. They're fantastic

RomanyRoots · 30/01/2019 13:56

This sounds like card factory. Cheap, cheerful and no imagination. Try Clintons if you can afford a fiver for a tiny one Grin

MrsJayy · 30/01/2019 13:59

Oh my i had a bit of a moan about this this the other day I was looking for a card for friends husband he isn't into fishing golf or painted river scenes he ended up with a beer bottle because that was the best of a bad lot.

MrsJayy · 30/01/2019 14:00

Oh and potting sheds with deckchairs out front Confused

Whisky2014 · 30/01/2019 14:01

Men dont care about cards, do they?!

Birdsgottafly · 30/01/2019 14:02

If they're not into, Football, Drinking, Fishing or Golf, go NC around their Birthday.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 30/01/2019 14:03

Try your local independent florist; there's one down the road from us that has little hand-made cards with all kinds of quirky designs (not flowery bland shite). Not cheap but worth the extra cost because they're always lovely.

Overtiredbackagain · 30/01/2019 14:04

Love Layla Designs do some hilariously funny cards at good price, including postage

Greyhound22 · 30/01/2019 14:06

It wasn't the Card Factory (agree they are shite also) but the independent gift shop in the village so not cheap either - £2.50 each-ish. And I still don't like them but no time to look elsewhere.

Im not organised enough to order online i am "ah shit it is Xx birthday tomorrow" sort of person

mrspicklepants27 · 30/01/2019 14:08

There are some amazing online card shops, love layla and thortful are my "go to" choices for cards everytime!
Highstreet is a bit wishy washy for me

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 30/01/2019 14:11

Seconding the online places- I use the Funky Pigeon app on my phone and they’re ridiculously quick with delivery. I’m in NI and they still get here within 2 days max.

They also look like much more effort has gone into them than is actually required!

snowflakesnow · 30/01/2019 14:12

I just purchased two nice cards for my brothers birthday in the local garage and they have bears on them and just say how fantastic he is etc

BigFatBloomers · 30/01/2019 14:12

I usually go for some bright buy fairly plain Happy Birthday ones - just text, no picture.

However, as pp said, men really don't care about cards

FoofFighter · 30/01/2019 14:13

I'm a fan of Love Layla cards

Redglitter · 30/01/2019 14:14

Moonpig can send the card direcr to the recipient for you pretty much always nexf day delivery

LostInShoebiz · 30/01/2019 14:17

Same for babies too. It’s all baby boy or baby girl cards. No idea why they can’t say congratulations on your baby.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 30/01/2019 14:22

If i get a card from moonpig or somewhere else online I just think the sender can't even be arsed to write a card. I know I'm being unreasonable but that's how I feel

HeyThoughIWalk · 30/01/2019 14:24

OP, try charity shops. Some have their own brand of cards, and they're usually about a pound or so. One of our local ones (Oxfam, maybe) has all sorts of cards - birthdays, new baby, exam results etc. - plus some nice plain ones.

I get infuriated by card buying, as there's so little choice and they're REALLY expensive!
