We live in a semi with our 21 month old DS. The house next door is a couple with a son similar to our son’s age and one a little older, maybe 5ish? The man has always been prone to yelling and we can usually hear him through the walls when he does, but it seems to have got more and more frequent. For the last half hour or so we’ve been watching tv and can hear him yelling through the wall- we made out the words ‘little shit’ but can’t really make out anything else and this probably happens once every few days/once a week now.

A couple of months ago we could hear him yelling, but more of a cheering yelling and my DH went round to ask them to keep it down as it was about 11pm- the mum answered the door with her youngest DS and she was slurring her words and clearly drunk, as was the man. She apologised but when DH came back round we could hear him swearing and yelling loudly.

My AIBU is around whether we should be doing anything. We obviously have no idea who he is yelling at or why, so we’re in that uncertain stage of knowing the way he’s yelling and the things he’s saying are clearly wrong, but do we get involved? Who would we speak to, if anyone?

If you are concerned about the children, call the NSPCC Link and advice

As it says, don't wait until you are certain, phone and have a chat if you are concerned.

Thank you, I’ll call them today and have a chat with them.

Oh dear, that's very worrying. Do you have any relationship with either of them? I'd say if in doubt call NSPCC.

GoBrookeYourself · 30/01/2019 07:57

charlie97 unfortunately, no relationship with either of them, that’s what’s making me um and ahh about what to do, in case I have completely the wrong end of the stick. Last night was the longest we’d heard the yelling go on for which is what made me think we need to do something, it ended up going on for a solid 40 minutes or so.
