Making sure that people are aware that they can follow a thread using the "Watch This Thread" button? (and bookmark where they are upto if needs be)

To raise awareness that people do not need to comment that they are place marking (shamelessly or otherwise)?

Definitely not placemarking here...

littlecabbage · 29/01/2019 14:58

This has actually helped me. Knew you could watch threads, so I don't post for that, but didn't know you could bookmark, thanks.

Mmmhmmm · 29/01/2019 14:58

Didn't want to read and run while shamelessly placemarking. Biscuit

PleaseJustSayNo · 29/01/2019 16:41

is this where I don't come back and comment on my own thread for AGES?

Totally agree

If we're going to start a campaign, what about not being able to edit your post, or those awful people who just derail every thread and send if off on a tangent by posting about other things instead of sticking to the OP?

I think the edit post function has been mentioned before but as far as I know. It won't happen because if posters could completely change a post then the replies and the rest of the thread won't make sense.

Other software manages it ... usually by disabling editing once a reply has followed.

If MN was threaded, you'd be able to see divergence and follow/ignore it at will.

I did mention it a couple of years back (it's been common in most forum software since the 1990s) and had my arse right royally handed to me on a plate.

incywincyspide · 29/01/2019 16:59

Editing is fine as long as there is a 'see history' button which lets you see all the versions of the post.

PleaseJustSayNo · 29/01/2019 18:32

Erm hang on a minute, this isn't a post about editing or not editing...

OP posts:
incywincyspide · 29/01/2019 18:55

It's a derail

You could always, instead of bleating about there being no edit function, just preview your message. Using the PREVIEW function. As a bonus, when reviewing your message, you can look for typos, spelling mistakes, missing formatting, emoji/smiley failures, missing words, broken links, enthusiastic autocorrects (always the phone's fault of course).

Sorry, is that off-topic..?

Toastedstrudel · 29/01/2019 19:56

Can we have something similar to a ‘like’ or thumbs up/ down feature?
