To ask for help unblocking my toilet!!

DP doesn't have many flaws, but he does have a habit of blocking the toilet!! He watched a million YouTube tutorials last night and proudly proclaimed he had fixed it

This morning he goes to work and I go to the toilet to find lots of... Product... Sitting in the bottom of the bowl. Managed to clear most of it with my hands with gloves on (Sad) still the bowl is filling up when I flush.

I've tried a few remedies like - bleach, then washing up liquid and a load of buckets of hot water, soda mixed with vinegar and the water again, and the bowl is STILL FILLING UP. I've probably used about a fiver of hot water at this point FFS.

I'm going to have to take a trip after uni to b&q this afternoon for drain cleaner stuff, but does anyone have any tips/recommendations? I've got a feeling the blockage is further in the pipes because I can't feel anything else with my hands (boak)

PLEASE can someone help me before I need to dig a hole in the garden for DP to use instead, and/or murder him??

Buy a plunger they cost about 2 quid or alternatively if you have a mop.put a plastic bag over it and use as a giant plunger ?

Meckity1 · 28/01/2019 09:33

Letting the washing up liquid sit for a few hours worked for me.

I feel your pain. The fancy tp that the men here like is a mare for blocking our toilet.

theworldistoosmall · 28/01/2019 09:34

Try a plunger. Be advised to have kitchen roll around the toilet as chances are it will overflow initially as the block is cleared.

Chuck a couple of bio washing tablets in and leave as long as you can. Has to be bio

Celebelly · 28/01/2019 09:36

We have a plunger that's a lot easier/quicker to use than standard ones. It kind of goes round the bend and then you just pump the handle. Have had to use it a few times recently (pregnancy glamour).

CandyCreeper · 28/01/2019 09:36

Just use an old mop to plunge it, works everytime my kids block ours up ... throw it away after

Celebelly · 28/01/2019 09:37

This is it. It's quite effective!

Is it the only toilet? HE should unblock it when he comes back from work.

Gizlotsmum · 28/01/2019 09:39

Mop in a carrier bag ( can reuse the mop) plunger style into the base of the toilet bowl. Repeat as necessary

ComtesseDeSpair · 28/01/2019 09:41

Caustic soda. Stuff dissolves corpses. My block has persistent issues with blocked pipes and is the only thing that really works longer term.

Moondancer73 · 28/01/2019 09:49

Drain rods and lift the manhole cover? My lot have a habit of blocking the loo and I've had to do this several times. It's the best way to be honest then be sure to flush flush several times and ration him to how many sheets he uses!

SaucyJack · 28/01/2019 09:52

Caustic soda is good.

If you do add any more chemicals to the mix, make sure you check the PH first as there’s already bleach (alkaline) down there and mixing some things can make really nasty gases.

pyjamapyjama · 28/01/2019 13:06

Thanks for the advice! Got a list to hit b&q with now.

RoyalChocolat yep it's the only toilet so thought I'd just attempt to do it myself this morning but I fully intend on him tackling it tonight with whatever I get from b&q Grin

Currently in class at uni thinking about the bio tablets sitting in my toilet right now hoping and praying it fixes it Blush

A plunger is way more effective than chemicals in my experience.

Scifi101 · 28/01/2019 13:07

@Celebelly where did you buy that plunger?

spugzbunny · 28/01/2019 13:09

Definitely mop head wrapped in a carrier bag. It forms a really good seal and then chuck it in the bin after!

GNT1521 · 28/01/2019 13:09

Another vote for mop with plastic bag over it, use like a plunger. My partner blocked the toilet with baby wipes years ago and this got them all up!

Celebelly · 28/01/2019 13:09

Just off Amazon I think. It's called (somewhat ambitiously) 'Luigi's – world's best plunger'.

aquaviv · 28/01/2019 13:10

Plunger. Its what they are made for.
