To think a cold shouldn't last for more than a s*dding week

DH got a cold, was ill for a day and snuffly for two. I get a (presumably, same) cold. Cough for a few days, then burning up for 3 days, now on day 9 and I've still got blocked ears, feel like I'm wearing a concrete face mask and that my eyelids have been swapped out for sandpaper.

I feel this goes against societal rules on colds. Anyone have any amazing cold remedies or tips for a better immune system? It's the great injustice of our house that DH never exercises, eats what he wants, drinks like a fish and has the constitution of an ox. I exercise, eat well and I get every bug going. I truly hope il be reincarnated as a man.

YABU - they can last up to three weeks. It sucks. For home remedies, try chicken soup (from your local Chinese takeaway if necessary), eat anything and everything with garlic, and keep drinking lots.

I think it depends on the cold and on the person.

If they don't normally last this long for you, I wonder if you have a sinus infection?

TheFaerieQueene · 27/01/2019 11:49

I had a 4 weeker in Dec/Jan. That was fun!

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 27/01/2019 11:55

I'm into my third week too.

Still using a Ventolin inhaler.

Skimmedmilk1 · 27/01/2019 11:56

Gp here, 2-3 weeks is standard

Pretty sure it's not an infection, symptoms aren't that bad. I should probably go get some soup; I've been craving (and giving into) bread/chocolate/pasta the last few days which I think is a combination of lack of energy and wanting comfort stodge. But having a cold is bad enough, I don't really want to add the need to go jeans shopping because I'm bursting out of my clothes to my to do list.

Sounds like the same bug I've had.
Days of fever and mucus like cement.
I'm fine if I don't move, but if I try and do anything then I turn into a coughing, hacking and snorting mess.
I've had this bug for over a week and am less than a month from a similar bug that was worse.
Someone please put me out of my misery, I can't cope with any more mucus.

AFistfulofDolores1 · 27/01/2019 12:39

I had the last one - off and on; sometimes ill enough to go to bed, other times feeling okay enough to function - for about 8 weeks. I thought I was getting cold after cold. Apparently not so.

Mine hit on the 5th January. Took me out for a week, then a couple of weeks limping along at work, then another half week dead under a duvet, blaaaaaaaargh I hates it I does.

MiniMaxi · 27/01/2019 12:41

Sympathy, think I have same cold as you. It’s a bugger isn’t it?! (Day 7 here)

Hasn’t been a day since mid December I’ve not been blowing my nose all day!!

NoDealNoreen · 27/01/2019 12:41

I've had low level colds for months alternating between sore throats and stuffy nose

SpoonBlender · 27/01/2019 12:42

I'm dissociated enough that that doesn't even add up. Had a week limping along at work, felt longer!

EmeraldShamrock · 27/01/2019 12:52

I had it for 3 weeks over the Christmas.
I haven't had it for years.
I've never had the flu jab, but I will next year.
Those vitamin c tabs that fizz up are quiet good to shift it, Vicks on feet for chest and cough.
