To worry being a week early for an interview has messed it up!

Hi all,

I have an interview planned for a voluntary role which will really help with a planned career change.

Idiotically I got there a week early and didn't realise until I was waiting to be collected from reception. The receptionist laughed, said better early than late, at least it showed enthusiasm and that she would see me next week. I didn't see the guy who will.do the interview as he was offsite.

I'm panicking a bit as it's been a stressful weekend, just ended things with my ex and he's been sending me shitty messages all day (blocked him but today i unblocked to try and sort a couple of his belongings I'd just realised he'd left at mine). I had it in my calendar as next week, just stupidly got it wrong!

Is turning up early likely to screw up my chances of being selected due to looking disorganised? I know it's unpaid but it is quite responsible work once trained with vulnerable people and also quite competitive.

Argh!

I think they’ll give you a fair hearing. If the man mentions it smile and make a joke about being keen.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 21/01/2019 17:36

Not at all... I interview people all the time and would find this quite amusing and you could use it to your benefit.

When you go next week it’s a good conversation starter

Them - hi green, how are you?
You - I’m really well thank you shakes hand I’m that enthusiastic for the role I turned up last week for the interview ‘and laugh’

It’s absolut fine and not worth worrying about!

StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2019 17:40

No, although I would be slightly on my guard.

StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2019 17:40

I wouldn't specifically raise it

AuntieGeek · 21/01/2019 17:43

I did exactly that for a part time job many years ago. It was laughed off as enthusiasm and I got the job!

Villanellesproudmum · 21/01/2019 17:44

Turning up twice shows how keen you’re. I’d make light of it.

Theansweris · 21/01/2019 17:45

Don't mention it unless he does! She may have given you a pass by not telling him.

GreenyBlueEyes · 21/01/2019 18:22

Thanks! Feel a bit less hopeless now Grin

I did exactly the same thing....got offered the job a week later on the right day!

StickItUpYaJumpa · 21/01/2019 18:25

Oh dear. Hehe! At least it wasn't a week late.

It would make me laugh and roll my eyes. It wouldn't make me any less likely to hire you though.

As above, if mentioned laugh it off and make a joke about being really keen.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 21/01/2019 18:28

Don't beat yourself up. I too have been stressed recently and am so disorganised mentally all of a sudden! It happens to the best of us!

Avis7 · 21/01/2019 18:33

I'd find it hilarious but it wouldn't make me any less likely to hire you. Make a little joke about it, and if they do hold an innocent mistake against you, do you really want to work there?

Ucangourownwoo · 21/01/2019 18:35

The fact that it's voluntary makes it better too. Don't beat yourself up about it and just style it out next week! Good luck Flowers

PeanutButterLips · 21/01/2019 18:41

Going off the other end. I was on my way to an interview and the sat nav was bringing me up to a road full of houses instead of a the company. So reset the sat nav and once again ended up on the same road in the end I was so frustrated I went home and called the company to tell them I could not find the place!
They gave me another postcode and said sometimes sat nav doesn't bring you to the company , well I was given a second chance followed the sat nav turned up at hotel, had interview and got the Job!
So even though I was late I still got it I wouldn't worry turning up early!

Sparklesocks · 21/01/2019 18:43

Oops! Oh well! I think it will be fine, don’t worry. These things happen. Maybe make a joke of it at the actual interview to break the ice.

GreenyBlueEyes · 28/01/2019 20:42

Just been for the actual interview on the right date and was offered it there and then! 😁😁 thanks for all the replies
