To stop DS (12) and maybe even DD (15) from watching Narcos?

MY DH has started watching Narcos with DD (15) and sometimes DS (12). Netflix rating is 15, but AIBU to stop DS watching it, ever? Horrid violent sex scenes, violence against animals...and I only watched it for five minutes! Obviously there's drug taking in it too.

DH doesn't see the problem

DH had just watched the newest Narcos (Mexico?). I work with high risk violent and sex offenders, I'm not easily shocked, but even to me some of it was incredibly graphic sex and really gratuitous violence. I'd even say no to the 15 year old and I'm generally very laid back about that kind of thing

itssquidstella · 21/01/2019 12:48

Nah, it's quality TV not gratuitous crap.

I’m usually very liberal with ratings depending on the maturity of the child, however I would absolutely not let w twelve year old watch it.

Watching a man ripped apart by a motorbike is not suitable for a child.

Stranger things would be more up his street and a much tamer watch whilst being a bit more grown up.

But narcos really no.

Readysteadygoat · 21/01/2019 12:57

We love it but wouldn't let 12yo DS watch

I'd like to watch Sex Education with him as I like the messages but there's just so much... sex Confused (plus it's an 18)

Pringlemunchers · 21/01/2019 12:57

No I would feel comfortable with some of the content

Pringlemunchers · 21/01/2019 12:58

Sorry... Would not!!!! Feel comfortable

I really liked Narcos (season1, wasn’t so keen on season 2) but it’s definitely not suitable for a 12 year old.

Absolutely this. For a 12 y/o, sex and violence within context if fine, especially within the framework of a high quality tv production. Yes, there's some sex and violence, but nothing gratuitous.

thanks, you have confirmed my view for my DS, he won't be watching it. Any more views on DD (15) would be helpful

My dc watched it at 15 - we watched it together.

Isitweekendyet · 21/01/2019 20:18

15 I would be slightly more liberal; I used to watch Skins in my room at fourteen and whilst I think Narcos is stronger stuff, both sexually and violently.

If she wants to it's harder to monitor than your twelve year old, but again I wouldn't actively encourage.

That said, I suppose it's better to watch it with her than for her to hide watching it alone.

LostInShoebiz · 21/01/2019 20:25

I’d be more inclined to show a child Trainspotting than Narcos. It’s no coincidence Pedro Escobar is more popular than ever. The whole thing glorifies him and his filthy trade.

Some things just aren’t fit to be made into entertainment.

I think it's fine for your 15 year old, but not for the younger one.
