Help! How to turn off gas on hobb button not working

what should we do, the gas is coming out and lights but won't shut off

Turn it off at the mains?

In the cupboard below my gas hob there is a lever which switches off the gas. Turning the lever so it is at 90 degrees to the pipe switches off the gas supply to the hob.

thank you turned off gas at mains in for a cold night and see the engineer tomorrow. I couldn't find any lever by the hob
