To think that Welsh rarebit with maple syrup sounds disgusting?

I had Welsh rarebit with bacon for my lunch today (at a cafe) and dh suggested it would have been nice with the addition of maple syrup.

At first, I thought he was thinking of eggy bread/french toast with bacon and maple syrup, which is lovely, but no - he was imagining that the combination of bacon and mustardy cheesiness on toast with maple syrup would be delicious.

AIBU to think it sounds vile, and would taste as vile as it sounds? He has said that, if I make Welsh rarebit and bacon for lunch one day, he will have his with map,e syrup, and is adamant that he will love it - and has committed to eating every morsel!

Most things are improved by the addition of maple syrup - or truffle honey is even better :)

Since you're accepting of eggs and bacon with maple syrup (which I too think is yummy), it's really not that much of a stretch to a Welsh Rarebit.
My husband winces when I put maple syrup on a cooked breakfast

Is he Elf?

Oh no.
I get through a lot of maple syrup, but can't imagine it on cheese in any way!
(Bet I try it some time, now I've read this!)

I’m with your DH.

Welsh rarebit with bacon and maple syrup sounds delish 😋

Passthecake30 · 20/01/2019 17:05

Sounds nice, I'd give it a go 😋

Though I think I am directly related to Elf...

SpamChaudFroid · 20/01/2019 17:11

Maybe... as long as the cheese was of a not-too-greasy-yet-salty variety?

LazyLemur · 20/01/2019 17:13

This sounds amazing to me.

He will be pleased to know that some people agree with him. Looks like I will be making Welsh rarebit this week.

I think I will have mine sans syrup, though.
