The sentence of a man who left his girlfriend for dead after "rough sex" will not be reviewed.

Multi-millionaire John Broadhurst was sentenced to three years and eight months for killing Natalie Connolly at their home in Kinver, Staffordshire.

During Broadhurst's trial, the court heard Ms Connolly had suffered more than 40 separate injuries, and he left her to die at the bottom of the stairs bleeding out, while he went to bed.

He will serve 22 months.

I know lots of us wrote to the AG in December, and signed petitions.

SadSadSad

Fucking hell. Can't believe it.

SouthWestmom · 17/01/2019 22:42

So provided a man also has sex with you/rapes you it's ok? To kill you? Wtf

OlennasWimple · 17/01/2019 22:43

Fuck's sake

Angry Sad
Unihorn · 17/01/2019 22:45

Un-fucking-believable. Her poor, poor family. I can't even imagine.

ThanosSavedMe · 17/01/2019 22:46

Horrific but I’m not surprised Rich man pretty much gets away with it again.

gluteustothemaximus · 17/01/2019 23:10

I really thought that there would be a review of some sort. There were lots of letters of complaint to the AG.

I thought we might try and get some justice for her. Instead she has died with people thinking she consented to what happened to her as she liked 'rough sex'.

Makes me very angry.

Just dreadful

Horrendous precedent

And i know im not using precedent right but it's going to be used as a defence for decades

AwdBovril · 17/01/2019 23:16

I'm not even that surprised. Women really are just a commodity now, for a lot of men. And this judgement reflects that. I worry what the world will be like when my DD is an adult. SadAngry

Drogosnextwife · 17/01/2019 23:21

I can not believe that! It's disgusting!

birdladyfromhomealone · 17/01/2019 23:27

how did she die, fall down the stairs

Bezalelle · 17/01/2019 23:28

It's not really any consolation, but I can't imagine that the brute will have an easy time of it in prison. Hopefully a sort of justice will be served.

OrchidInTheSun · 17/01/2019 23:35

She died because the levels of alcohol and cocaine in her body were enough to kill her. She died because her internal injuries were enough to kill her. She died because Broadhurst walked past her body at 6am to go to bed and didn't call an ambulance while she bled out.

And it is setting a precedent. In the judge's summing up remarks, he makes repeated references to previous legal precedents. This will be the bar now.

Under U.K. law, no one can consent to sex if they are so intoxicated that their mental capacity is severely diminished. And yet Natalie Connolly was apparently able to consent to having appalling acts of violence committed against her.

The law is an ass

MrsTommyBanks · 17/01/2019 23:50

Horrific. And not the only case

Thesearmsofmine · 17/01/2019 23:55

Absolutely disgusting. I really hoped that this would have been reviewed, I mean he just knowingly left her to die alone at the bottom of the stairs.

RaininSummer · 18/01/2019 00:00

This is shocking.

gluteustothemaximus · 18/01/2019 00:12

He lied about when he got up. He said 9am but his activity monitor placed him on the stairs at 6am so he stepped over her body.

When he called the ambulance he described her as dead as a doughnut.

Paramedics observed he wasn't bothered/upset/concerned.

I've never read about anyone who takes part in BDSM, that agrees to a carpet spray bottle inserted into their vagina, that when yanked out causes an arterial laceration or agrees to bleach on their face.

Even IF you accept this. Still no reason why an ambulance wasn't called when she was bleeding out.

Judge was way off with his remarks.

RussellSprout · 18/01/2019 00:21

The judge said she'd probably inflicted the fractured eye socket injury herself by falling over when drunk.

As opposed to the scumbag beating her up.

Broadhurst must have been laughing to himself during the trial

HeyDuggeesCakeBadge · 18/01/2019 00:27

This is obscene - our justice system is broken if we allow vile specimens like this to get 3 fucking years for what he did to that poor poor girl.

What a shit show this is. I'm utterly raging.

YouSayPotatoesISayVodka · 18/01/2019 04:31

Having read the link wecantconsenttothis I am truly shocked, disgusted and afraid at not only how many times it’s happened but some of the injuries these women suffered and the way in which evidence was presented and said injuries dismissed. Women’s lives are so cheap.

As someone who’s abusive ex liked to strangle during sex and rape I realise how lucky I am to not be on a list like that. He used to tell me he’d get away with my murder. I think he was right having read that link.

gluteustothemaximus · 18/01/2019 11:11

I'm so glad you're not on that list.
