Partner/kids stepdad has just left what do I tell them?

I am devastated we have been together 6 years and have had a horrible year health wise I don't want to split but his demons are simply to big and he doesn't want to continue. What do I tell my children he's been a great "parent" to them and they will be devastated they are 10 and up I'm so upset I don't think I can find the words.

Will he still be having a relationship with them? Or is he leaving their lives as well as your relationship? As I think this will determine the right thing to say. It sounds hard OP, hang in there

I don't know if I'm honest I'm in shock and feeling very lost has always talked about how strong we were and long term plans I hope he sees them my youngest will be devastated

Sorry OP I just saw this.. no wonder you’re in shock, I would be too. Hope you and the kids are as well as can be expected. Hope you have some good “real life” support and keep posting
