I’ve also now used the same recipe for cupcakes and omg. With chocolate buttercream icing it’s completely amazing. It took 10 years but I now know.

Just wanted to share whilst I drink my tea and eat my cake! (Kids added the sprinkles!)

ZogTheOrangeDragon · 13/01/2019 17:02

YABU not to share the recipe.

ItsHardToExplain · 13/01/2019 17:04

Waiting with a pen here to write it down . . .

Dotty1970 · 13/01/2019 17:05

Yabu

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 13/01/2019 17:07

It’s just a stealth boast if you don’t share the recipe!

Newsername · 13/01/2019 17:07

Thank you OP! Grin

Evilspiritgin · 13/01/2019 17:40

Thanks for recipe op, just asking if you are in UK if so what flour do you use?

HotInWinter · 13/01/2019 17:44

All purpose is closest to UK plain flour.

UserMe18 · 13/01/2019 18:19

I knew it would be with oil rather than butter before looking, americans are so much better at cake than us, it was a revolution to me to discover oil based recipes rather than butter!

Sprinkles212 · 13/01/2019 18:22

A good chocolate cake is a rarity so well done you! And the sprinkles are probably the best part Smile

My go to, never fail, so much so that my daughter and I bake this together every year for her birthday, chocolate cake is:
www.nigella.com/recipes/chocolate-fudge-cake
Tastes amazing and ALWAYS comes out fab, that's coming from a very rubbish baker otherwise.

LokiBear · 13/01/2019 18:23

YABU - Mary Berry's chocolate cupcake recipe make the best chocolate cake ever!

ChesterGreySideboard · 13/01/2019 18:25

That looks very similar to the classic Mary Berry recipe.

Dreamingofkfc · 13/01/2019 18:26

Nigella's chocolate fudge cake would take some beating, but it's worth a try!

Owwlie · 13/01/2019 18:26

YABU because this www.greenandblacks.co.uk/ultimate-chocolate-fudge-cake.html is the best chocolate cake recipe ever.

LoniceraJaponica · 13/01/2019 18:28

"americans are so much better at cake than us,"

I disagree Grin

OP that link won't work for me.

My favourite chocolate cake recipe is this one

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/01/2019 18:30

American cakes - nah! Although angel food cake was a bit of a revelation.

I love a good chocolate cake.

LoniceraJaponica · 13/01/2019 18:35

My absolute favourite is Mary Berry's lemon drizzle traybake. It is lush.

UserMe18 · 13/01/2019 18:35

British cakes are dry and don't even get me started on royal icing 🤢 moist cakes with butter cream icing allllll the way!! Costco is worth the membership for the cake alone 😂

LoniceraJaponica · 13/01/2019 18:37

"British cakes are dry"

Mine aren't. I especially chose to have a gas oven so I could make moist sponge cakes.
Costco cakes taste artificial.

ChesterGreySideboard · 13/01/2019 18:42

British cakes are dry

Speak for yourself.

UserMe18 · 13/01/2019 18:43

Crikey ladies taking me a bit too seriously, didn't realise what a hot topic it was 😂

GenderIsAPrison · 13/01/2019 18:43

YABU. That recipe looks far too complicated.

www.nigella.com/recipes/old-fashioned-chocolate-cake

My go-to chocolate birthday cake!!

Harryo · 13/01/2019 18:46

Where do you get espresso powder from OP? Or do you live in the US?
