AIBU to think that cookie dough isn't that bad

Just what the title says. I was baking cookies with my DS and OH and, as we cleaned up, I licked the spoons. My OH was horrified (raw egg).

As a child, I remember always looking forward to licking the spoon (and bowl) whenver my mum and I baked.

What is your opinion? Do you let your DC consume raw batter/dough?

Best part of baking!

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 13/01/2019 04:21

You would be abusive to not let them lick the spoon!!!! 😂

Coolaschmoola · 13/01/2019 04:25

Yep, rite of passage!

Thishatisnotmine · 13/01/2019 04:40

I hate that I have to share with dc! Eggs are now officially salmonella free.

YABVU it's revolting. Never been able to understand the obsession with cookie dough ice cream etc. Best part of cooking for vegan DD is egg free mixture, but it's still awful and a waste of a potentially delicious cooked biscuit Wink

Raw biscuit dough and cake mixture is often better than the cooked stuff.
I believe it's the flour that is at risk of carrying bacteria. Indeed, I've seen raw cookie dough recipes tell you to heat the flour before using.
Never caused me any harm that I know of!

jessstan2 · 13/01/2019 07:02

I used to do that too and love Ben and Jerry's Cookie Dough ice cream.

PS: Nothing wrong with raw egg either, nutritious.

Raw eggs aren't dangerous anyway, especially if they have the lion egg stamp.

Sorry link didn't work!

Pachyderm1 · 13/01/2019 07:26

It’s not the eggs that are dangerous, it’s the flour. But even then it’s such a small risk - I never worry about it!

Racecardriver · 13/01/2019 07:28

If you use British eggs it’s no longer a problem apparently. They were declared safe a couple of years ago (too late for me to have runny eggs while pregnant though).

CustardCreamLover · 13/01/2019 09:10

Raw cake batter is the best! How do you know if the cake will taste good if you don't test it before cooking?! Unfortunately I'm currently pregnant and don't live in the UK so eggs aren't salmonella free 😢. Can't wait to shove a bit of raw batter in my face when this little one is born!!
