AIBU or is Three being ridiculous?

I have 2 months to go till I can upgrade online - it will cost me £104 to get out early. This includes a so called “discount” of 20% which is actually just the VAT I’m not paying.

Asked for info on upgrades - was told £79 for handset (new phone) and £33 per month. I said I’d just wait till I can exit contract as £79 plus £104 upfront was too steep - I’ll probably go to another provider now as after 10 or so years, they’re no longer the cheapest option.

Response - since we’ve got a long term relationship it will be £104 exit charge plus just £37 per month with nothing upfront.

AIBU that it’s crap to offer me something as a “special deal” which is actually more expensive than their offer to new customers that I’ve just turned down as too expensive? Their “special deal” will cost me an extra £26 over the life of the contract which is crazy!

The operative then tried to push a £47 pm deal with no handset on me, despite me already saying a) I only need 7gb data and b) I’m trying to reduce my bill to around £30 c) my phone is broken.

Frustrating!

Always shop around. Due to the market nowadays staying with your provider is not always the best. Bit like gas and electric. The provision is basically the same no matter who you go with. You are basically paying for coverage (If you are in a crap area) and customer services (if you ever need to use it)

Yeah, I’ll probably go for o2 out of principle. Trying to tell me £37 for 24 months is cheaper than £79 upfront with £33 for 24 months is just insulting.

They do it as some people won't do the math and think it's a better deal.

With 02 you also get the prority app which is great for event tickets and also free stuff especially with Thorntons and whsmiths around Christmas!

Three have Wuntu- you get free coffees and things with it too so that’s not a reason to swap (for me anyway).

I would literally never use Three ever again.

About 15 years ago they faves me a default for anlaye payment of the very first DD installment. I know late is late but it was he first one and for some reason it wasn’t set up properly and didn’t come out. Called to pay it the day or two later.

Awful company. Awful.

That’s really bad, do they not set up the direct debits from their side in the first place?
