Aibu to think that academies aren't all bad?

At least, I hope they're not.

I'm about to apply for an academy place in Reception for my youngest DS, and to move my older DS there from his awful regular school. Both children have SEN without EHCPs, and this academy seems to be absolutely lovely and will actually help with the process of applying for EHCPs.

Please tell me they're not all bad? I'm losing sleep over it because where I live there are lots of schools, but they're mainly academies.

Not all academies are bad, there are a significant number run as a business and decisions aren't always taken with the children's best interests.

However all my children are at academies. The primary one is led by a passionate headteacher with gorgeous eyes and they are doing well. Ds (ASD) gets the support he needs.

The secondary has just converted, can't seeuch difference tbh.

I teach in an academy, it consistently gets the best GCSE results in the local area & the SEN support is amazing. There are issues, like there are in all schools, but nothing terrible.
