Very close friend for years .. we work together, socialise together etc etc. Birthday came up in conversation by others during the week. Walked into work this morning to zero acknowledgment . Just completely forgotten ! Am I being too sensitive ? Embarrassment when another friend wished me a happy birthday . Need to pull myself together don’t i ?

Yes. Its only a birthday. People have more important things on their mind

comedycentral · 11/01/2019 14:19

Don't be upset, it probably just slipped her mind. I'm sure she is a great friend otherwise?

icannotremember · 11/01/2019 14:20

Yanbu to feel upset but you would BU to show it.

MamaBearThius · 11/01/2019 14:22

Happy Birthday CakeFlowers

Sometimes people have things going on that you don’t know about. I bet she’ll be gutted when she realises she’s forgotten.

My birthday was on the weekend too, no one ever acknowledges it (other than my mum and husband) because just so close to Christmas and things getting back to normal. Everyone is broke and tired and fed up of food 😂

I always try and acknowledge my friends birthdays but I just accept mine is at that time when no one is really thinking about birthdays, it sucks sometimes when massive fusses are made about friends but equally I totally get it. Just crap timing.

Both my parents forgot my birthday...we have a great relationship, they don't have alzheimers or anything...just forgot. I even rang my mam to ask her something else and she still didn't think of it!! I will hold it against them for the rest of their life!! Grin Grin Grin

Boysandbuses · 11/01/2019 15:10

It slipped his/her mind for what....a few hours?

Birthdays are a big deal to some people and not others. Personally, I think being bothered about birthdays is mainly for kids. As an adult, I don’t really care but maybe because mine has always fallen bang in the middle of the festive period and therefore been eclipsed.
I don’t really remember friends’ birthdays unless they show up on Facebook.
So you are not unreasonable to feel a certain way, but in the scheme of things I would not say it’s a big deal.

mimibunz · 11/01/2019 15:12

Happy birthday! Cake it’s mine too. Woke up with a cold!

SuziQ10 · 11/01/2019 15:46

Don't be silly, it's just a birthday.
I'm always flattered if anyone Does remember my bday!!
Friend has probably got stuff going on x

SushiMonster · 11/01/2019 15:47

This is why you should take cake in when it is your birthday, then everyone can remember and say happy birthday.

Olayfiend · 11/01/2019 15:53

Yes you’re right I am being silly. Friendship has become more one sided of late so I am a bit sensitive and there would have always been a card or a message but to forget it outright hurt me a little . Happy birthday to those who birthdays are around this date! Have a good weekend everybody ! And thanks

Some people remember dates and some don't. It's not that they'll have intended to forget, it's just not something people usually remember without a reminder - I'm sure they'd be enthusiastically wishing you a happy birthday if you remind them by, say, bringing in some leftover cake and mentioning its your leftover birthday cake.

I do tend to remember dates very easily and sometimes say happy birthday/happy anniversary/happy x birthday to your child to colleagues. More often than not, they've been freaked out that I remember personal information about them so I don't tend to do it anymore. Instead, I mention it before or after the day on a more 'oh it's your birthday around now, right. Hope you enjoy celebrating'
