'There once was a man called Boswell. For short they called him Bos, and he walked up the post office steps.'

Did we ever find out the answer/what the joke was?

Place marking!!!!

Stompythedinosaur · 11/01/2019 00:19

I was wondering this too!

SpoonBlender · 11/01/2019 00:24

No. The OP dicked us with an "oh, I found out but can't tell you, but two people have got it right in the thread. Byeeee!"

And that was it.

Newsername · 11/01/2019 00:25

The joke is that we never find out his real name. He’s just called Bos for short. Hilarious. Not.

IamAporcupine · 11/01/2019 00:28

oh
my
god

not again
yes we did

Mitsuki · 11/01/2019 00:30

Was there actually an answer or was it just a wind up. I'm thinking wind up.

showmeshoyu · 11/01/2019 00:34

It's the Mumsnet equivalent of playing Mornington Crescent.

BipBop123 · 11/01/2019 00:38

Yes we did?? So what was the answer?!

This is almost as annoying as the thread that reminded us that we just lost THE GAME!!!
Grin

Whisky2014 · 11/01/2019 00:39

It was a nothing. Don't worry about it.

Reallyevilmuffin · 11/01/2019 00:41

One of the most irritating things I had ever read. Still no closure!

marmeladerose · 11/01/2019 00:42

So there wasn't an answer? Or the answer was nothing? Or something like that.

OP posts:
showmeshoyu · 11/01/2019 00:44

@marmeladerose one of the previous replies on this thread was frustratingly close to the actual answer!

AleFailTrail · 11/01/2019 00:46

I knew Bos well? Just a guess

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 11/01/2019 01:07

There was a joke - it was on all of us and it wasn't funny.

Complete waste of time, apart from the tiny benefit of adding another shortcut phrase to the standard MN vocabulary:

Boswelling = Timewasting / Being extremely annoying

I think the OP was a 12yo boy in his bedroom thinking how hilarious he was being to lead us all a merry dance. Yawn.

timetostepup · 11/01/2019 01:14

From @mumsnet_madness on twitter.

"It’s a wordplay riddle. But the OP got the words wrong 🤦‍♀️"

This is important - see screen shot for correct words.

Did we ever find out about Boswell?

Possible solution.

Did we ever find out about Boswell?
WisdomSearcher · 11/01/2019 01:23

Is it something along the lines of

"oh I know him as Well?"

timetostepup · 11/01/2019 01:25

And...

Did we ever find out about Boswell?
1vandal2 · 11/01/2019 01:26

Oh my god this is has been annoying.

WisdomSearcher · 11/01/2019 01:27

Seriously. What a lame "joke" Confused

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 11/01/2019 01:45

As the esteemed philosopher Leslie Dennis would have commented, winter nights must really fly by in their house if this 'joke' has been amusing them for decades.

FuckingYuleLog · 11/01/2019 04:34

There was no solution. The op came back and said they’d been told but wouldn’t tell us. There is no such riddle. It was just a wind up.

Thishatisnotmine · 11/01/2019 04:38

Fucking Boswell. And losing The Game all on one thread!

ushuaiamonamour · 11/01/2019 08:12

Feck, another thread title that promises more than it delivers. I came here thinking I'd missed a news story about a country vicar finding yellowed documents in his attic suggesting that Boswell held a hidden and very deep contempt for the insufferable Dr Johnson, and that OP was asking had they been verified as the less-insufferable Boswell's.

As for the riddle, the solution is that as everyone knows the PO door was level with the footpath and so there were no steps.

Anothermothersusername · 11/01/2019 10:20

Look at the OP’s username which is “killingtime”. Perhaps that’s what their intention was after all Hmm
