To go back to my maiden name?

Has anyone done this?

I’m happily married and originally planned to use my maiden name for work and my married name for non-work things. However, I then switched jobs and ended up using my married name for everything- it just seemed easier.

Now, after 15 years’ marriage, I’d like to go back to using my maiden name, especially for my work and studies (I’m half way through a PhD). I mentioned this to my husband who couldn’t care less either way.

Has anyone made this change? Did everyone assume that you were getting divorced? The most tricky thing would seem to be changing my name at work and uni- bank and passport etc seems easy. Is it much faff?

I don’t mind us being Mr and Mrs Marriedname for the children’s school etc and don’t really care about things like how people address Christmas cards or whatever. But I’d like to have my doctorate and work life in my maiden name.

You’re allowed a legal alias (I have both married and maiden names in my passport - so issued in one name with a note that I’m also known as the other name) which might be the easiest route if you want to use both just in different situations
