To not want to go on holiday?

We don't like going on holiday. We live at the seaside & have countryside close by so enjoy days out instead. MIL loves going on holiday/weekends away & always asks us if we are planning to go on holiday especially now it's January & booking a holiday is kinda the next thing to do after Christmas. It's like she's trying to force her enjoyment of going away onto us & can't seem to except we don't like going on holiday. Anyone else not that bothered about going away?

Where you live sounds idyllic. Your mil sounds perfect.

Yanbu for enjoying where you live so much you don't feel the need to go away on holidays.

Yabvvvvu for living the perfect life.
(Where is this paradise on earth btw?)

I don't like going away either, can see the sea from my kitchen window and have a coastal path very close by so holidays by the sea aren't my idea of fun + I'm in the tourist trade so can only holiday in winter as very busy during summer months.

How is she forcing you? She's just asking because it's something she likes. I wouldn't read to much into it really.

I love holidays Smile

If you are both happy with what you've got around you, why bother? It's only worth getting out of your comfort zone if you really want to see other parts of the country or the world, because travel can be very stressful. I can't muster the enthusiasm to travel any more, maybe because I've already done a fair bit of travelling. And it is so expensive. Maybe your MIL will never understand, but that's a small price to pay for the lovely life you seem to have.

I have to admit I find it strange when people don’t like to travel! But each to their own!

Birdsgottafly · 08/01/2019 18:07

My main trips away were camping on the coast, so I can understand you living where you live.

There's so much more to see in the World, though. But if it doesn't appeal, then thays OK.

From my POV and perhaps your MILs, you look back and wish you'd done some things when younger, to really get the most out of them. As fit as you stay, you still slow down, can't drink as much etc.

Have you been on holiday together and not enjoyed it? Isn't there anywhere you'd want to go?

I'm 51 and I've still got a list of places.

There's so much to see in our world. A holiday doesn't have to be about where is hottest or the sea.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 08/01/2019 18:12

Tbh I can't get my head around people not wanting to see the world. I've got family like this and I think they're missing out on so much. But they'll never I suppose.

You're annoyed at your mother in law for being chatty and nice?
