To think January’s bad rep is undeserved!

Am I the only one that actually quite likes January?
I always feel it’s like a blank slate. Like when you open your brand new diary and it’s all shiny and unspoiled. I like to make New Years resolutions and feel like I can become anything and anyone I want this year (I can’t really, but that doesn’t stop me from imagining Grin ). I like that Xmas with it’s stress and chaos is over and order can be restored once more, especially once the kids start back in school. I have really overindulged last month and quitting booze for a while and eating healthy makes me feel all saintly!
I am skint and that sucks. But to be fair I am skint fairly often, so that’s not really something out of the ordinary.
And i the only one who feels like this?

I quite like it too. We always do a big clear out and tidy up between Christmas and new year so our house looks better than ever at the moment! And like you I quite like having resolutions and feeling like I’m keeping to them (for the moment at least). Plus it’s nice to relax and do nothing after a month of seeing family, Christmas parties, getting presents etc.
But I really hate the cold so can’t say I really love January that much.

I don't mind it. It's a new year and a new start, a chance to push the reset button. And most wonderful of all, Christmas is over!

I'm with you OP! February on the other hand......

IrenetheQuaint · 06/01/2019 14:51

Totally agree! It is so nice and peaceful after the madness of December. Great time to recharge and sort things out for the rest of the year.

Fluffyears · 06/01/2019 15:24

It’s the unrelenting darkness I can’t stand. It wouldn’t be so bad if there was some actual daylight.

dudsville · 06/01/2019 15:40

I love it. January and February are "winter" and while i don't like being cold i like lots of other things about the season!

gower4 · 06/01/2019 15:45

I love it! Clean and fresh, with a sense of calm after twelfth night.

LostInShoebiz · 06/01/2019 15:46

I love it too. My absolute favourite month of the year for the following reasons:

  1. Slightly quieter at work
  2. Christmas stuff cleared away so house looks huge
  3. Lots of people doing resolutions so they’re politer, stay at home, no queue for the bar
  4. Nice and cold, proper winter
  5. No social engagements
  6. Got some Christmas money so feel rich

I like January. I love winter and it's my birthday, plus got loads of leftover alcohol and chocolate from Christmas to eat snuggled under a warm blanket in the dark evenings. What could be better?

recklessruby · 06/01/2019 15:50

My birthday too but at the end which means everyone's got paid and is up for a night out.
I like it. I like the crisp winter days and the hint of spring in the air as the nights get longer.

madasamarchhare · 06/01/2019 15:51

I agree too! It feels like a fresh start. Not worried about being skint as always find we don’t need much in January. House has been sorted and cleaned since all the Christmas stuff has been put away. Nice things to look forward to for the year ahead. I love January but don’t say it much in real life as it’s not an opinion shared by many.
