To want lights off?

I prefer sex with the lights either dim or off. Hubby prefers them fully on. Thoughts?

It’s not very passionate if you can’t see who your shagging imo and would be a buzz kill for me

frustratedashell · 05/01/2019 17:21

Compromise? As bit dimmed?

Gronky · 05/01/2019 17:21

You could wear heavy sunglasses Smile

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 05/01/2019 17:27

YABU. He wants to shag you because he loves you and finds you attractive. With lights off he may as well be shagging any old random.

arethereanyleftatall · 05/01/2019 17:30

Lights off for me please

BluePepper · 05/01/2019 17:30

You say you like dim so do you have dimmer switches? A midway option seems a sensible compromise if so.

flintfoxy · 05/01/2019 17:32

Surely low light or candles appropriate here - surely no one wants to shag under fluorescent strip lighting

CardsforKittens · 05/01/2019 17:32

Lights on here. I like to be able to see stuff.

Purpleartichoke · 05/01/2019 17:32

How dark are your bedrooms that lights off means not seeing your partner. We have blackout shades and I can still see my spouse.

sirmione16 · 05/01/2019 17:32

Get a lamp?

Amorea · 05/01/2019 17:32

Do you always have sex at night?!

I only ask because if it's daylight then there's little difference turning the lights off will make! Grin

pinkhorse · 05/01/2019 17:34

Why would you not want to see everything? Confused

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 05/01/2019 17:42

We almost always do it in daylight! I seriously don't think we've ever done it in the dark.

ginpink · 05/01/2019 17:43

Sorry to drip feed. We have just re decorated and have (bright) lamps and a light that are either on or off so it's either very bright or pretty much pitch black. If we have day sex it trends to be late afternoon and now days it's totally dark.

I might invest in one of those lamps which has multiple stages of brightness

We have young kids so daytime sex opportunities are very limited!

@Gronky - hahahahaha sunglasses!!!!
Some of these comments have made me roar.

ginpink · 05/01/2019 18:07

Grin suggestions of which sunglasses would be best welcome. Ones that wouldn't ruin the mood !

OnlyaMan · 05/01/2019 18:24

For the usual Porn Videos, strong photographic lighting is essential!
Sorry...…...that was facetious.
But one of you could wear a Head torch.

pumpkinpie01 · 05/01/2019 18:26

How about some pretty lights round the headboard /bed frame and the main light off ?

Fluffyears · 05/01/2019 18:32

Would the sunglasses not shake up and down lol. I understand as our overhead light is so bright it’s like an operating theatre and it feels like all my flaws are on show. A softer lamplight is nicer, especially afterwards as you want to relax.

Confusedbeetle · 05/01/2019 18:34

Bright lights are so unflattering. Also never be on top in the light after the age of 40 (try it looking it a mirror aaarrgh)

Confusedbeetle · 05/01/2019 18:35

There are some things it really is better not to see

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 05/01/2019 18:36

Not with just the Big Light on Shock that's well freaky.
Bedside lamps = ok.

MirandaWest · 05/01/2019 18:38

We have bedside lights with three levels of brightness - not quite sure which level we have on but probably 1st or 2nd level.

Gronky · 05/01/2019 18:52

Would the sunglasses not shake up and down

You're a absolutely right. Ski goggles might be more appropriate.

Regarding non-dimmable lighting. A bluetooth enabled smart bulb might be a good intermediate fix. You don't have to go spending ridiculous sums of money on something like a Philips Hue, there are generic ones on Amazon and from other sellers that will fit a normal light socket and let you control the brightness from your phone, you can even get ones that can produce different colours. If you don't own a smartphone, there are also bulbs which pair to a remote, Ikea sells them as well as other manufacturers.

If you do want to opt for one that does multiple colours, I recommend an RGBW bulb, since producing white by mixing red, green and blue LEDs produces a rather unpleasant effect (the white only ones that let you change the hue aren't affected by this, they achieve the hue changes by having an extremely warm white and extremely cool white LED and mixing between them).
