Worried about DH mental state..

I'm really worried about DH. He's early 20s and so unbelievably forgetful. He doesn't remember things that happened 2 minutes ago. Literally. He forgets directions and names. He forgets to eat if he's not told to. Prior to our relationship he was extremely underweight because he never remembered to eat.

He also doesnt express emotion, and doesnt feel much either. He doesn't care about anything really. He says he loves me and our DC but I don't know if he does. I hope he does.

We just talked and he says that most of his days are forgotten within minutes. I told him he needs help. He said I can't even remember to ask for help. He can hardly ever hold up a conversation. I don't know what to do to help him. I'm really scared. Does anybody recognise this? I have no idea what to do or where to go from here

Check that he's not stressed. Stress can affect memory.
Is it just mundane every day things he's forgetting? Sometimes daily routine is so mundane that it all blurs together.
If he is doing things that are out of character or becoming obvious, such as forgetting basic skills, then yes, certainly make a G.P appointment for him.

Has this just happened, or has he had a version of this over time?

Some people do have short term memory loss, maybe as a result of some sort of brain damage. Agree he needs to get it checked out

It sounds as if he needs to be assessed as soon as possible. Idk if he can remember when this started but it would be useful to know. Have you discussed his memory issues with his family to gain any insight? Is there any history of substance abuse?

Some physical illnesses and depression can also cause this, which is why he really needs to see your doctor asap.
