To think you can post here when you are ill?

This may be construed as being a TAAT but its actually about several I've seen over the years.
The thread usually goes 'I feel so ill etc'
To which invariably you get 'well if you are on MN you can't be that ill' Confused
I'm lying down right now gently moving my thumb over the keys. Its not that demanding. OK I'm not ill but a few years ago I posted here saying my doctor wasn't taking me seriously when I felt so ill and yes within about 3 replies I had the standard that I wasn't unwell if I could type (move thumb) I had pneumonia it transpired. I wish some people would cut some slack.

I've rarely been so ill that I can't think or type!

MissCalamity · 03/01/2019 13:26

The only time I've been that ill that i couldn't type, let alone look at my phone was when I had a really bad migraine & spent most of the day in bed or with my hand in my hands.
Hope you feel better soon Flowers

**head in my hands! Grin

I managed to go for a short walk (week post c section), feed my baby, direct DH with what to pack in my overnight bag while I had spesis. Sometimes the more ill you are the less time/ability you have to think about it and just continue with life.

donajimena · 03/01/2019 13:34

@misscalamity I'm fine I just got a bit pissed off when I saw the old chestnut being trotted out again. jackshouse that's scary! I'm glad you made a full recovery

It's a ridiculous thing to say. I've been totally out of it the past couple of days, certainly couldn't drive/leave the house but I could still read/type. Funny how people think they can dictate what others should/could do over the internet. Hmm

CripsSandwiches · 03/01/2019 13:53

People post on mumsnet from hospital of course you can be too ill to work or look after kids but can still post on mumsnet.

Some people wouldn't want to post on MN when they feel very ill but people are different, some do want to reach out for support that way.

recklessruby · 03/01/2019 14:01

The only illnesses that would stop me using my phone are severe migraines and norovirus (totally occupied with sleep or my head in a bucket).
Anything else is ok.

I've rarely been so ill that I can't think Oh, I have. Unfortunately my manager had asked me to deputise for him at a meeting, and I thought "I can't let everyone down by having two people from our team cancel. I really shouldn't have gone! Spent the whole meeting in a semi-conscious haze, then made one remark which was mindbendingly trite and drew a withering comment. It was then that I lost all sympathy with the "if you're well enough to sit up you're well enough to work" crew.

YANBU, I was texting friends whilst in intensive care, granted it was only the last day or so before I was moved to a regular ward. I’m sure some MNers would have told me to get up and go to work!

Depends how ill obviously 🙄. There have been a couple of times that I can think of where I couldn't have used my phone or tablet as I couldn't bear to move and just need to lie with eye closed - one was a really bad migraine and the other was flu. No way could I have been posting on MN all day.
