Put in an offer for a house. It's on the market for 375. My offer is 350. They want closer to the asking price but I can't afford much more. They're desperate to get rid but have had an offer closer to the asking price. The people who have put in the offer however are in a chain.

Do I just offer that little bit more and hope for the best? It's a beautiful house and I can see me living there with my family...

It's unlikely I'll get it isn't it? I think they're just going to wait it out for the other family to be out of their chain :(

Why is the housing market so poor? Finally the perfect house has come up and I stupidly got my hopes up.

It's so disheartening.

Confused If you “can’t afford much more” it means you can afford to offer more. If you love it, and it’ll be a family home for many years

I would
-Make the highest offer you can
-Highlight you are chain free and can move quickly
-Point out the market could well drop if brexit goes through and while the other offer is higher now, if the sale drags they may well get gazundered

  • Wait and hope for the best

I know it's really disheartening OP. If they are really desperate to sell then they might welcome your next offer if it means exchanging quicker?

I had an offer accepted on my dream flat then it fell through at the last minute. However just weeks later I fell in love with another property and was so pleased I was free to buy that one. So even if it doesn't happen this time maybe there's a reason in the long run? Good luck x

I thin people are mad to buy anything at the moment not because of brexit but because there seems to be a clear indication that the market is going to dip. My opinion before anybody jumps down my throat.

However if you truly love it and are able to ride out the storm ahead then offer your max but make it clear that it’s your best and final and you want it off the market.

House buying is stressful. We are in the process of it all atm and it is horrible. If You can afford some more and you are sure it's the house for you then put another offer in and make it clear you are chain free. You never know and it doesn't hurt to try.
It's taken us nearly a year to sell our house but we needed to move. No one really knows for sure what the future is going to bring. So it's always worth taking a shot if you want something.
