To stay off work tomorrow

I've had an upset stomach since Friday (fucking nightmare) it stopped last night at about midnight. I took a fuck ton of Imodium after it and have had some pretty horrible cramps but it officially ended at midnight

I'm in work tomorrow at 8am. My hospitals sickness policy says it has to be 48 hours since the last incident of sickness but doesn't mention the 'D' in D&V is it still 48 hours? Can I go back to work on Thursday or tomorrow?

You work in a hospital, is that right?

48 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea is standard, I believe. In a hospital, I’d imagine any norovirus risk would be best avoided due to the havområder it can cause spreading on wards.

havoc... autocorrect madness

Yeah I do. God they're gonna hate me. 🤦‍♀️

100% you can’t go in

Tough. They’ll have to get on without you- am sure that they would rather that than you bring that into the hospital.

Have you been sick at all or just upset tummy?

Puggles123 · 01/01/2019 20:28

Is it an upset tummy from food or an actual bug?

NewYoiker · 01/01/2019 21:12

@Poodloo not been sick no just upset stomach for fucking days. I thought it was food poisoning but no one else is sick at all

Imodium will have slowed down the exit of the bug from your system which is why it's generally not recommended for bugs. The faster you can push the bug through by eating and drinking the better for you, but it's still 48 hours minimum from the last episode of either d or v. The head of infectious diseases I worked with was pushing for 72 hours.

48 hours from the last episode of sickness or diarrhoea is standard. Imodium? Not surprised you have stomach cramps!

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 01/01/2019 21:40

Def 48 hours minimum and Imodium is a terrible idea as all that bacteria is now building back up inside you ... so you may have more to come when it wears off ... 🤢

Differentcorner · 01/01/2019 21:43

Fellow NHS worker, yes you need o stay off minimum of 48hrs after last episode. I appreciate you feel guilty but please do not go in. Also it’s absolutely fine to take Imodium for a bug, the only purpose of D&V is to spread the virus not help you clear it.

Immodium and a stomach upset is a really bad combination - no wonder you're in pain!

Stay off. You're gonna need to be close to a toilet once that wears off!
