To think this is enough food?

I’ve invited family round for New Year’s Day as some of us haven’t seen each other over Christmas.
I’m cooking two huge gammons, devilled eggs, potatoe salad and coleslaw, french bread and sausage rolls, will also have crisps, nuts, cakes mince pies and chocolates to help themselves too.

There will be 8 adults, 5 kids under 10. I’ll make huge portions of coleslaw/ pot salad and loads of bread and butter. Dh says I’m not providing enough, I think this is ok for a 2pm get together?

Is it enough?

Are you provinding desserts? If so the. Yes it’s plenty

Orchidflower1 · 29/12/2018 13:05

I’d be inclined to offer something else like potatoe skins or couscous just in case I’d a cold pasta dish particularly if there are youngish children.

formerbabe · 29/12/2018 13:06

Sounds enough to me and I'm pretty greedy!

Orchidflower1 · 29/12/2018 13:06

Not quite sure why it’s potatoe instead of potato- sorry auto type thingy

Fivefootoffun · 29/12/2018 13:07

I think that sounds loads! Especially with the sausage rolls and eggs. It sounds delicious - if I was coming to someone’s house at 2 in the afternoon, I’d love a spread like this! (I guess you could always put out some cheese to go with bread to keep DH happy but I think it’s plebty!)

MatildaTheCat · 29/12/2018 13:07

That’s plenty. I would possibly add a green salad as I’m craving plain, fresh tastes after all the excess.

My dh always wants to over cater and it’s mad. People generally really don’t suddenly eat mountains of food.

Amanduh · 29/12/2018 13:08

It’s loads!

Ellieboolou27 · 29/12/2018 13:08

Cous Cous - yes! I’ve got a big tub so can put a bowl of that out, thanks

Puddings are mince pies (cream if wanted) Yule log and pavlova

That sounds plenty (and very nice) and I have a tendency to over-cater. What else does DH think there should be?

PragmaticWench · 29/12/2018 13:09

Potato salad, coleslaw and devilled eggs all (usually) have mayonnaise, so maybe provide something that isn't so mayonnaise based? disgusting stuff Maybe some cucumber and cherry tomatoes?

Sausagefingers9 · 29/12/2018 13:12

I’d add carrot sticks and dip and maybe some pesto pasta.
Otherwise it sounds great!

Twowaystreet · 29/12/2018 14:13

Is the sausage roll mince pork? I'd have a different meat unless you know everyone likes 🐖

PinkHeart5914 · 29/12/2018 14:19

It’s loads! More than well catered, and sounds very nice 😃

adaline · 29/12/2018 14:27

Sounds fine, though maybe something without mayo just in case?

CookPassBabtridge · 29/12/2018 17:58

We always over cater and people never eat as much as we think they will. There's usually people on diets or kids who won't eat much! I think it's plenty.

Yerroblemom1923 · 29/12/2018 18:15

What are devil eggs??? Curious. Genuine question.

Yerroblemom1923 · 29/12/2018 18:16

Maybe add some hummus and mackerel pate?

Orchidflower1 · 29/12/2018 18:20

Hope your party goes well op.

Nottobesoldseparately · 29/12/2018 18:36

I'd only do one gammon if they are huge and exchange it for a veggie quiche and some pizza for the kids.
Add a big bowl of salad, some pate and a cheese board.
Might possibly add some salmon and prawns but that's because my family eat loads of the stuff!
Other than that, sounds lovely.

mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 29/12/2018 18:44

I might add jacket spuds (bung them in the oven, zero effort) and a cheese board in case the odd person doesn't want meat or stuff with mayonnaise in. I would also add something salady like a pp said - bowl of tomatoes and some cucumber sticks would do.

Ellieboolou27 · 29/12/2018 19:32

Thanks all, I’ve added a green salad and cheese and crackers, the potato salad is a Greek style one with olive oil, red onion and coriander, no mayo.

I’ve shown dh replies and he now finally agrees this is enough.
yerro devilled eggs are boiled eggs, split in half, yolk mixed with paprika a little Tabasco and mayo then filled into the whites, sounds vile, tastes devine!

Thanks all Smile

Sounds great with the cheese too (maybe some chutney would be nice but that's probably because I'm currently hungry and love chtuney)
