To feel deflated after Xmas

Am I the only one that feels emotionally exhausted?

Nope I’m there too.

Lottapianos · 26/12/2018 17:41

In my humble opinion, it's the most overhyped load of bloody nonsense going. There's endless pressure to have the perfect day and the perfect everything, it's totally unrealistic and unobtainable. So I don't blame you at all for being exhausted by the whole thing.

Anything in particular that's happened?

Otterses · 26/12/2018 17:41

Not just you. I feel mentally and emotionally drained.

It was just too stressful this year. Really glad it should hopefully be the last one with my in laws for a while.

Ireallywantmylifeback · 26/12/2018 17:41

Loaded with cold, hideous cough and couldn't taste my new chocolates. Feeling very exhausted.
Hope tomorrow is a better day 🙂

CatnissEverdene · 26/12/2018 17:41

And me, I could just sit and cry this afternoon.

If only we could have a break for a year.

Merrychristmasyoufilthyanimals · 26/12/2018 17:42

Same. Done far too much drinking too so that doesnt help.

Dp booked italy as suprise for me n we fly on friday. Its helping with the low mood xx

clairebear31 · 26/12/2018 17:45

Yes actually had a nice time but totally exhausted by it all now

Reaa · 26/12/2018 17:45

Exhausted, 3 months of planning, hunting for the perfect gifts, wrapping gifts, more planning, organising family and visitors and catering for the unexpected visitors.

The decorations, tree taking up room that means everything else is out of place.

But we had a nice one and it's all been worth it but today I'm just exhausted now.

Pinknike · 26/12/2018 17:47

I'm the same.

There's just so much pressure to make Christmas Day the perfect day. I try to keep Christmas as low key as possible but it can still be overwhelming.

I need Boxing Day to recuperate.

JudasPrudy · 26/12/2018 17:47

Yes I didn't even do much for Christmas or get very excited but it whips everyone up into a frenzy and reality is a bugger when it hits.

Easter is my favourite time of year though and it's coming up soon Smile

KitKat1985 · 26/12/2018 17:47

Feeling very deflated at the moment. I work as a nurse and it's unusual for me to have the whole of Christmas week off like I have this year, and I've been so excited and looking forward to it. Cue me coming down with a stomach bug yesterday morning. Envy

fartwhenyoustandup · 26/12/2018 17:51

Yes, feeling very down in the dumps after the high of yesterday. The house is in chaos which is sending my anxiety through the roof, my back is hurting so badly for some reason that I can't bend down to tidy up, and I'm just emotionally and physically wrecked from the whole experience.
Not to mention the financial fall out of it all which I need to sit down and calculate tomorrow. I dramatically overspent, and January's now going to be a crap month.

MaMisled · 26/12/2018 17:52

I feel like a wrung out dishcloth. So much going on, family dramas, hosted yesterday then worked a night shift. I slept 2 hours only today but DH is the one snoring on the sofa!

Lottapianos · 26/12/2018 17:53

'Easter is my favourite time of year though and it's coming up soon smile'

Glorious. A double bank holiday weekend with long days and no pressure to do anything except eat chocolate! I love it too. Still 4 months to go though.....

whatsthestory123 · 26/12/2018 17:54

Yep know what u mean had all my kids back and sis,not one argument and had a brill day but today its like a cloud of gloom has come over me

Felt so low txt an ex wishing him a happy christmas,we ended on bad terms in the summer and no contact since, stupid me he might not answer and that would be for the best o think,i cant even blame alchol ive had none

saveforthat · 26/12/2018 17:54

Rea. 3 months of planning, really? I can't understand why anyone would do this.

Bakingberry · 26/12/2018 17:55

I feel like I've spent the last few days with people hosting, that don't actually want to host. People that wish they were elsewhere. People that are disappointed in who others are. It's been a complete waist of everyone's time and just made me fee bad.

I feel absolutely fine tbh! We had a very quiet day yesterday with just one strop between dh and the dc over them not liking dinner. The only guests were my sister and her family and they only stayed half an hour for a quick brew.

Today has by and large been the same but the dc are a bit tired and are on the come-down from all the excitement so have been arguing more today and have been sent to their rooms a few times. Other than that it just feels like a normal Sunday. I am looking forward to getting out of the house tomorrow though!

U2HasTheEdge · 26/12/2018 18:02

Xmas is so overrated. It is just a day after all. I have had family here today (worked yesterday) so I don't feel like Xmas is over quite yet, but I always try to remember that it's just a couple of days, seeing family I always see, with nice food and presents for the children. It helps with the come down when I put it in perspective towards the lead up.

I don't even like Xmas that much but always feel a little bit deflated afterwards. I am hoping this year will be better because after NYE I have some time off. I struggle more when the kids go back to school and we are back to the same routine just with shit weather.

ButtMuncher · 26/12/2018 18:11

Yeah I hear you. I feel like I've constantly been on the go all month. I do like Christmas but it makes me horribly anxious every year. We've had a pleasant time but my anxiety has made it a bit difficult. Not to mention we've not seen DSS as he's been unwell.

Reaa · 26/12/2018 18:48

saveforthat

I try to buy things, bit by bit to spread the cost.

I like to research, the more expensive items, to make sure they have the requirements, needed for each person.

I also find, the best prices for each gift and check what deals are available and when.

We have a large family so I like everything wrapped and ready for at least a week before Christmas Day.

Fridge and freezers get defrosted

Parcels posted to family abroad

Girlicorne · 26/12/2018 18:55

We are going away on 30th til 2nd for new year we do it every year it really helps with the Christmas blues!! I ll also spend the next few days booking holidays and mini breaks for 2019, making plans with friends and family and planning January days out with the kids! Having something to look forward to really helps!!

Chickenpie9 · 26/12/2018 21:23

Sometimes I think if the rest of your life is not going great you can sort of get through it by thinking to yourself well I will deal with this after Christmas or let’s just have a nice Christmas then you forget it’s only one day and wake up on Boxing Day and reality hits you again .

MrsPinkCock · 26/12/2018 21:33

Yes.

Completely exhausted. Run round like a blue arsed fly for the last 3 days - constant cycle of cleaning, entertaining and cooking, rinse and repeat.

Would love to relax tomorrow but people are coming over again. Which means I need to clean tonight, again.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2018 21:33

TBH its a bit like planning your summer holiday (usually in January the planning Grin ) buying clothes, saving , dieting, getting things organised . Takes months. Enjoy it , a few hitches , then wallop, you're home and it's Meh back to the grind.

Only Christmas is the same day for most (some do the 24th and in New Zealand they'e 13 hours ahead)

The buying, the queues , the spending, the grumpy buggers.
Rubbish TV , rubbish weather .

I don't drink , I;m vegetarian. Didn;t make a cake this year (bought a small simple one) bought a small pudding. Don't have a load of surplas food .
Back at work tomorrow Hmm
