To think Boxing Day is so much better than Christmas Day?

I love Boxing Day. I get to stay at home, only wandering out to take the dog for a leisurely walk across the fields (compared to yesterday’s everything on a schedule, must get the dog worn out now, hours before his usual walking time).

I can eat all the party food (M&S bits and pieces etc) and Christmas chocolate that I like. Not driving so can drink as well. I can lounge in my pjs all day and start my Christmas jigsaw.

No being polite to the ILs while they manage to disagree with everything I say.

So much more relaxed and better than Christmas Day. Grin

YANBU. I love Christmas but Christmas Day (once I’ve seen DS face when he opens his presents) is my least favourite bit.
Boxing Day is so relaxed, we stay in our PJs until we feel like getting dressed, walk around the house finding homes for stuff, eat nice food, play with new toys, I have a long bath and we just chill out.

Best day of the year!

Redgreencoverplant · 26/12/2018 13:23

Love Boxing Day too, none of the pressure but all the tasty food and relaxed family time :)

NewYorkDoll3 · 26/12/2018 13:24

Hmmm, it is slightly better as there is much less stress. Still love Crimbo day though!

ShatnersWig · 26/12/2018 13:27

Nope. Dislike it just as much. Even though I'm working.

dementedma · 26/12/2018 13:29

i'm finding it very boring it must be said....

CemetaryGates · 26/12/2018 13:29

I agree. No cooking, and no cleaning gets done either. We just lounge around watching films or tv, eating snacks and drinking wine. Boxing Day is wonderful.

dementedma · 26/12/2018 13:30

house is a tip, car has a flat tyre and stuck at home with dh who is watching football and sniffing. yesterday was better.

SuperstarDJ · 26/12/2018 13:31

I love Christmas Eve & Boxing Day. Christmas Day is just the exhausting bit in the middle.

saltandvinegarcrisps1 · 26/12/2018 13:31

Another one who prefers boxing day. DC are still in bed and I'm watching only fools and horses with a giant tub of celebrations Grin

Girlicorne · 26/12/2018 13:44

I like Christmas Eve best, I m always exhausted and a bit grumpy xmas day once we ve done the presents bit it's all just a bit of an anti climax. We do our build up over 50 days, see santa every weekend from November and do stuff after school so it's all very full on! I like boxing day it's really relaxing. We are currently in the pub with the in laws going back for a buffet in a bit, it's nice! I like tomorrow as well, we go away every school holiday and lots of weekends and the weekends we are home we do days out so tomorrow is our annual stay home and do nothing day. I ll read and make plans for next year, we have lovely leftovers and some extras and the kids will play with their new stuff I can't wait!!!

barbiegrl · 26/12/2018 13:47

Well I'm full of cold today so yesterday was better-but I had a long hot bath and I get to watch crap tv now as dh has taken the kids bowling

jinglebells123 · 26/12/2018 14:12

Yes and no! I love the chill out time but when I was younger I loved going for boxing day lunch at my aunt's

I've done Christmas dinner for the last 5 years and would love to be invited to someone's on boxing Day for round two with the bonus of not needing to cook - still waiting for that to happen! People seem happy to accept my hospitality but not offer it in return.

Funnyface1 · 26/12/2018 14:18

I'm actually really enjoying it this year, had a brill day so far. Staying home, playing with dc and all their new toys, had a lovely Christmas dinner, too much chocolate. Yesterday was lovely, but felt a bit rushed.

Ceejly · 26/12/2018 14:26

@Girlicorne Does seeing Santa every weekend for 5-6 weeks not stop being magical or exciting after a while? Is it not dead expensive too?

OneStepMoreFun · 26/12/2018 14:43

Sounds bliss OP. We still have guests until 28th.

redexpat · 26/12/2018 15:11

In how to do everything and be happy by Peter Jones the first suggstion is a monthly boxing day.

Bowchicawowow · 26/12/2018 15:13

I like Christmas Eve. Christmas Day and Boxing Day all for different reasons. I probably like Christmas Eve the most because we have a great routine that we all enjoy and look forward to.
