So, after a LOT of hassle we booked our wedding for September next year (booked in May of this year). In September this year, the venue was bought out by a company. We were obviously concerned that things might change and it might no longer meet our requirements. We were assured by the Manager everything would be as before and that the new owners would contact us within 2 weeks. There was no contact so we got in touch and finally arranged a meeting in November with the representative of the new owner.

We were assured that nothing would change and that they wanted to cater our wedding etc etc. About to order invites to send out after xmas and yesterday (so christmas bloody eve) read in local paper that staff were told last friday that possibility it is closing and a decision will be made on 2 Jan!!!! No one bothered to contact us and let us know and the massive CF lied to us in November!

Basically, owner lives next door and has bought it to shut it down and either extend his already massive mansion or develop land and put houses on it!!!!!

Why didn't they just say they weren't doing weddings anymore when we met if they didn't want to let cat out of bag re closure?! It means that we have very little chance of finding anywhere else we want for our date and likely to lose photographer deposit also. They also have our deposit. Obv I've emailed to ask for it back but complete CF's!!!!!!

YANBU! How horrible! On a positive note at least they haven't left it until the last minute, think of the poor couples booked for January!

Hope you sort an alternative soon! Do you have insurance?

joeturnersleftfoot · 25/12/2018 19:30

No alternative venue and no insurance! The only other deposit we may potentially lose is the photographer but am hoping he will take pity on us given circs.

Am SO hacked off!!!

They haven’t informed you yet officially - get insurance now, it’s only about £30. No decision has been made yet

CrispbuttyNo1 · 25/12/2018 19:34

You have nine months to find a new venue. That’s plenty time.

PoutySprout · 25/12/2018 19:36

no insurance!

Whatever not?!

The Manager may not have had any idea of what the owner had planned to do, after all the Manager and Staff could lose their jobs in the New Year too. So don't blame them, blame the owner instead.

ShawshanksRedemption · 25/12/2018 19:43

Same for Owner's Rep - depends on what the Owner told them - he may have kept them in the dark whilst deciding what the future held for the business.

Our deposits been refunded and our photographer has done same! We’ve decided to elope.
