To feel that hidden threads should stay hidden!

The main reason i hide threads is because i suffer with anxiety and some threads trigger this. No fault of the OPs, i have even had reason to hide my own threads.

The issue is that if i just ignore a thread it will slip off active convos after a while and I'll not see it again. However in hidden threafs it is very easy to access them again in a couple of clicks so if something is playing on my mind i can actially find it again more easily than if it had slipped off active threads i hide them so i cant keep obsessing over them and dont want to encounter them in active.

Is there a way that they dont just sit in a list of hidden threads and can be zapped permanently? The fact i know they are there plays on my mind.

Why don't you just avoid the hidden threads list? Every single thread on that list is one you don't want to see. Avoid them all. I can't suggest anything else.

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 23/12/2018 23:04

I find this annoying because you can hide a thread but it will still be in Discussions of the Day or Trending and it is easy to click on it again by mistake.

If you hide a thread it should actually be hidden on your device, not still sitting there at the side of the page.

AGHHHH · 23/12/2018 23:33

I thought it disappears completely? That's stupid!

LEMtheoriginal · 24/12/2018 06:12

Aghhh because my anxiety makes that difficult to do. Having a hidden threads list means it can still play on my mind. I thoight the whole point of hiding it was so it is gone. The hide function almost acts like a save function.

The option exists to hide threads. The fact you can’t exercise self restraint is your own issue to manage.

Not to be harsh, but if threads on the internet are causing you this much anxiety that even hiding them isn’t enough then maybe you need to step away for a bit, not expect mn to manage your inability to stop going back.

LEMtheoriginal · 24/12/2018 06:26

Wow - ok right.

I was pointing out what i deem to be a flaw in the system.

No. I wont be stepping away as i generally get a lot of support from mnet.

Why does everything have to be the responsibility of someone else? This thread is just an example.

Be responsible for what it is that you want/need to do.

If you don't want to look, don't look. Or don't post shit in the first place that you'll regret later on!!

SilverDragonfly1 · 24/12/2018 06:46

Having them still show in Active Discussions is very annoying!

I don't know if it's possible to program, but an option to choose whether you can re-access a particular thread would be good- something you could choose alongside 'Hide'. So it'd be 'Hide' or 'Permanently Hide'.

But you can imagine the constant threads from people who clicked the wrong one by accident and want MN to change it back!

Anyway, glad you're not going to leave!

orangepopp · 24/12/2018 06:48

The hide threads feature is great. I have sometimes hidden a thread by accident so I like that you can access it again. I don't see how your anxiety would cause you to go back and look at threads that cause you anxiety, this doesn't make sense. If a website is making you anxious you shouldn't be on it as it's clearly not helping you.

immortalmarble · 24/12/2018 06:50

I generally hide threads because the title makes me feel sick Xmas Grin

LEMtheoriginal · 24/12/2018 07:08

This website does not make me anxious. SOME threads do. I generally avoid them but sometimes my anxiety kicks in.

I just felt it defeats the object of having a hide feature when it actually seems to function more as a "save for later" feature.

I am sorry if this thread upsets folk.

As i said. This site is very supportive for me and i rely on it alot. So no. Sorry - im not leaving Hmm
