To leave cash at home while off on hol

Off on holiday early hours. Stupid me forgot to pay £600 of earnings into bank. Not sure if secure to take with me and leave in hotel safe or leave at home at this time of year for fear of being broken into. Don’t live in dodgy area but this time of year imo feel I’m risking it a bit.

Aibu to leave it at home and not be paranoid or should I take it with me.
Also I’m hiding it from my dh as he’s being super tight recently and so don’t want to risk going through security at airport and someone asking me about it in front of him. I’m self employed earning £100 pw and he earns loads more than me but always hen pecks on what I’m spending money on even though I’m massively frugal (hence 6 weeks earnings still around). Sorry not sure if any of that is relevant!!

I would hide it well at home.

catchyjem · 22/12/2018 23:03

Definitely leave it at home, but hide it really well.

showmeshoyu · 22/12/2018 23:04

It sounds like you have greater issues than money storage that need resolving. Put the cash somewhere out of the way, in a sock or slid underneath something. Not on display.

Singlenotsingle · 22/12/2018 23:04

I'd agree with TwoLads. No point in taking it with you and it could cause problems, either with customs or with DH. Hide it somewhere safe and don't tell anybody!!!

HollowTalk · 22/12/2018 23:05

I wouldn't take it with me. I'd put it somewhere safe, like inside the duvet!

Rhubarbisevil · 22/12/2018 23:06

Give it to me. HTH Xmas SmileXmas Wink

FredFlinstoneMadeOfBones · 22/12/2018 23:06

Definitely hide it at home just find a really good place.

Shannaratiger · 22/12/2018 23:06

Maybe take £100 with you and securely hide the rest!

Chouetted · 22/12/2018 23:07

Hide it at home, and don't tell us where you hid it!

kaching · 22/12/2018 23:08

Ok thanks! Really paranoid such an idiot I totally forgot it arghhh
And yes defo money issues at home but it’s because dh job is suddenly not secure due to problems at his company so he’s stressing about it so I’m actually being more frugal than ever but would like to have some money to not be told I could have saved if I’d just done xyz! Am planning on going back into a ‘proper’ job in the new year as can’t handle this !

Could you not leave it with family?

kaching · 22/12/2018 23:10

I could have done if I wasn’t leaving at 1am damn me. And now I can’t sleep for my own silliness!

Hide it at home in a really obscure place. Maybe wrapped in cling film in a plastic food box in the freezer? Have a lovely holiday.

showmeshoyu · 22/12/2018 23:14

Split it into three batches, all in places only you would look/use. Breakins tend to go for fast clean out, if you disperse the cash in odd places, it won't be stolen.

Carno13 · 22/12/2018 23:16

In the loft is a good place, if you can get up there without him suspecting anything.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 22/12/2018 23:16

Make a note for yourself of where you've stashed it, or you'll be back here in a week's time asking for suggestions of where to look... Grin

Grace212 · 22/12/2018 23:17

can you stuff it inside a sock or something and shove it to the back of the wardrobe, somewhere that's a pain and a nuisance to search?

kaching · 22/12/2018 23:20

@DisplayPurposesOnly how did you know I’d definitely forget where I put it ha! It’s split up in different socks now.
About to sneak downstairs and disperse it round my teeny house! Thanks all!
