What to take for Xmas eve drinks gathering

New neighbours have invited everyone in the avenue to pop in to them on christmas eve for mulled wine. I haven't met them yet but intend to take up the invitation.

AIBU to ask what I should take. Feel I shouldn't arrive empty-handed.

Bottle of posh mulled wine and some sort of festive baked good?

Cherry321 · 20/12/2018 21:54

A bottle of wine and some savoury nibbles. Enjoy. Xmas Smile

MidiMitch · 20/12/2018 21:56

A bottle of wine and a poinsettia.

StealthPolarBear · 20/12/2018 22:10

We all agree on the wine :)
If you go for savoury, for the love of God do not get prosecco crisps from m & s

Advocaat and a cheese and pineapple hedgehog Xmas Grin

We host a Christmas drinks party and whilst we really don’t expect anything, a nice bottle of wine is appreciated or a pot of bulbs is a lovely gift. I don’t really want Food gifts that I’m expected to serve, I will have already planned the food and being given a pack of smoked salmon and a large hint to serve it was a bit off one year Grin, (I had already prepared smoked salmon canapés). Box of chocs is a nice gift.

This, with (jingle) bells on.

Bottle of wine 🍷🍷

moredoll · 20/12/2018 22:22

Bottle of wine and chocolate reindeer/teddys for the children if they have any.

SushiMonster · 20/12/2018 22:28

Bottle of wine and a chocolate gift for their children (if they have any). And maybe a pot plant.

TheBaltictriangle · 20/12/2018 22:32

I always take none alcoholic drinks for the drivers and a big tray of veggie samosas they are always a hit as they help to soak up the alcohol.

Meangirls36 · 20/12/2018 22:41

I would personally take a bottle of naice buckfizz and one of those Christmas tubs of cheeslets.

MariaWaria · 22/12/2018 08:39

Fab ideas - thanks all.

I quite like those prosecco crisps! But I agree, too risky for this occasion. I think sparkling wine and either chocolates or a poinsettia.

LakieLady · 22/12/2018 13:10

Pombears.

blackteasplease · 22/12/2018 13:12

I would take prosecco or cava because I'd want to drink that!

I also like the prosecco crisps but can see that many wouldn't!

FilthyforFirth · 22/12/2018 13:16

I'm doing this, though tomorrow over lunchtime. I've just advertised as mulled wine and mince pies. Invited new neighbours (we are the new ones) hope they dont feel a need to bring anything. I wouldnt judge you for turning up empty handed!
