seriously people. I t drives me bonkers when you hand over a gift, the receiver peers at it, gives it a shake, thinks for acmoment and goes
"it's a spiderman house plant... lavender" and they're right... bastards

I have no idea why, but i hate it when someone guesses their gift and announces it - somehow it feels rude?

I’ve never experienced this!

Myusernam · 20/12/2018 11:38

My husband does this. I hate it so I don't give him his gift until it's time to open it Grin

allinmyhead12 · 20/12/2018 11:41

i am one of those, my DH hates me for it LOL, one year he gave me a big box and i tried to guess wrong and said perfume....turned out to be a box set of perfume with hand cream and everything!!!!!
i just open it now as im just too good at guessing LOL

PickleMeThis · 20/12/2018 11:45

Ds (14) has always been able to do this since he was about 4 - even if I’ve disguised his presents in bigger boxes, he can guess his presents down to the last one. Gets on my bloody nerves!

There’s no way he’s found them beforehand as they’re not even in the house!

NeverHadANickname · 20/12/2018 11:50

My Dad can do this but his presents are usually similar from one year to the next 🙈
I am pretty sure I know what one of my presents are under the tree but haven't said anything because DH would be disappointed and I don't like to be wrong 😂

I HATE this. My OH does it. Just pretend you don't know what it is. Where is the joy in opening the present if you have just said what it is.

InSightMars · 20/12/2018 12:05

Well if they're expecting a specific thing or know your tendency toward giving botanical gifts and lavender is their (or your) favorite colour/scent they're likely to be able to make an educated guess. Size, shape, weight of package are also giveaways.

DH buys me a couple of specific stocking stuffers every year and I buy him a couple. It's kind of a running joke* and we both make wildly wrong guesses about what they are.

*You have to be there but I promise it's hilarious, even the cats laugh and laugh.

ABoozedMoose · 20/12/2018 12:07

Maybe you just need to be less predictable in your gift buying.

Some things are obvious - bottles, Lego, plants, boooks...

Dairymilkmuncher · 20/12/2018 12:15

You are so right OP, this drives me insane. I get so excited to see people's faces opening gifts. I'm creepy like that. And a smug, guessed it right face is not satisfying Xmas Angry

InSightMars · 20/12/2018 12:27

It's a game to them, their party trick, lighten up and play along. Be creative. Get them something they're not expecting for a change or hide something else within the package. Wrap a new watch inside a pack of socks or tape an envelope with concert tickets inside a calendar.
