At the time I was exhausted and hormonal so. It thinking straight but now I’ve had time to look back I feel like the situation I was in was odd

Was referred to a London clinic from another clinic (both private)
When we got there they confirmed again all details etc and treatment started
At the time to pay they said
‘Sorry our card machine has been broken for days you have to pay cash’
We didn’t have cash my husband said he will go to get it they called security who said no we have to go together with a member of staff ?
I felt unwell and wanted it over with so we did
It was £200 and they were v busy and we didn’t hear then telling anyone else this
We got the money and the member of staff took it said thanks and rushed off .....no receipt
We went back to get one they said no printer also broken we asked for handwritten they said no I walked out as felt unwell

This is wrong aibu to be feeling now a long time after that I should have done something more ?

Thats very weird. They should have hand written a receipt. Have you called them to get them to print out and post one to you? I'd tell them your medical insurance wants to see a receipt so you can get some of the money paid back to you.

Yes I should try that. I feel stupid for being so accepting but I wasn’t well and not thinking straight

Okayyyy then Hmm

DramaAlpaca · 19/12/2018 22:03

It all sounds very unprofessional.

Worriee · 19/12/2018 22:20

When we arrived all the initial things and the treatment itself it all seemed fine. Professional
It was the payment stage and thereafter
I’m not sure what the above post and the suspicious face means ?

How odd. There's a spate of threads tonight about people handing (or thinking of handing) cash over under dubious circumstances.

Is there something in the air? Is Mercury retrograde? 🤔

My experience has been that you can’t even step through the door without parting with at least £4000
If it’s a well known/established clinic you should be ok

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 20/12/2018 00:14

What kind of 'treatment' were you paying for?

This sounds beyond scam-my.

Worriee · 20/12/2018 05:49

Sorry I haven’t actually seen any other threads about handing over money so this is nothing to do with any others

The treatment was something called Intralipids. My ivf clinic recommended it but doesn’t do it on site so sent us to a different clinic that did all sorts of iv infusions. At first it all seemed fine I had no reason to worry as the first part was all professional it was just when we went to pay it all changed
This was quite some time ago I think I’m just processing things now as then I was in a cycle, feeling like rubbish and not questioning things I normally would have

All of it sound so weird but I think they are legally obliged to produce a receipt for payment. Citizens Advice Bureau might be able to help if you want to do something about this.
