Every school Christmas show since DD started in P1 has been brilliant. Every year it is themed e.g. xfactor... It has always been quite emotional (P7s last ever show), with lots of upbeat modern music, some classic rock/pop thrown in and some comedy. The P7s always have the main acting parts with Ps1 to 3 being very much part of it with their own musical numbers in between scenes. Ps 4 to 6 are the choir who are seated throughout, singing along at parts and encouraging the audience to clap along etc. At the end P1-3 and P7 are on the stage for the final number with Ps4-6 up on their fee too, eventually leaving just the P7s to finish off the remainder of the final number. The joy on their faces is just lovely to see and it is quite emotional. We always leave amazed that they pulled off yet another year of a fantastic show.
In the Spring the headmistress retired and we now have a new headmistress. We thought that the format of the show might change but were hopeful that it would still be a really good show. It was absolutely dreadful. There was no upbeat music just one boring, dull Christmas song after another after another after another. The P7s, although they all had a speaking part, were at the side of the stage throughout. It was boring and dull with absolutely no atmosphere. Throughout the entire show I just kept thinking how absolutely gutted I was for the P7s who would have been waiting for their moment since P1. This should have been there year and it was taken from them. Usually at the end of the show everyone is clapping and cheering but this year it was completely flat, a round of applause and then everyone left. My DH and I came away saying that it was absolutely awful. The worse show we have ever sat through for the school.
So...AIBU to email the school to say how disappointed we were this year and hope that the format would be reconsidered for next year? I have only really spoken to one other mum who said that she felt exactly the same i.e. it was awful
