To think UBER should have a free 2 minute cancellation window?

You book a taxi, for school, appointment etc...

Once you click find me a driver and one accepts you get charged £4 to cancel.

However some drivers take the job even though they are STILL on another job or are 30 mins away!

You have no choice but to wait or get charged at least £4 for cancelling.

Surely there should be a window of a few minutes where you can cancel the driver for free if he is too far away for your needs?
I mean within 2 minutes they aren't going to have travelled any distance to have lost petrol or other rides?

It really annoys me.

And before you say use normal taxis, I never have cash on me or else I would.
And I only use taxis very rarely and uber is just easier apart from this massive flaw.

Yup

I also think drivers should be fined a few quid when they cancel on you after accepting a job.

Kazzyhoward · 19/12/2018 08:41

And before you say use normal taxis, I never have cash on me or else I would.

Why not just go to the cash machine and draw some out so you don't get caught out without cash???

Samcro · 19/12/2018 08:43

a lot of proper Taxis take cards now.

Harrykanesrightsock · 19/12/2018 08:44

If you live rurally kazzy as I do, you would need a taxi to take you to a cash point. usualy in the opposite direction to where I need to be.

DonkeysEars · 19/12/2018 08:47

Kazzy, the only time I ever get a taxi is to school which is £4. If I went cash machine I'd be round the corner from school!

As someone on disability benefits I don't have enough income to have 'spare cash' just for taxis put aside.

Also I'd have to take £10 out for a £4 journey.

Totally agree OP - I’ve always found this so unfair!

MatildaTheCat · 19/12/2018 08:50

I agree. One Uber driver actually arrived at my house, I waved through the door and turned to put on my coat and he drove off, presumably because he didn’t want to drive into central London after all.

Other than that I do 💝 Uber.

OftenHangry · 19/12/2018 08:50

I hear you! I once ended up waiting 35 min in rain!
And that bastard had a cheek of adding few pence as a waiting charge after it took me whole 30 sec to get to him from the shelter......

itsallgravybaby · 19/12/2018 08:51

You can go to the menu and select "i had a problem" or similar and request a refund of the cancellation time due to wait time. Every time I have a driver 10+ plus away when I cancel they've just refunded automatically!

Holly2017 · 19/12/2018 10:27

You can cancel within 5 mins for free. Also Uber are very quick to reverse cancellation fees if you do get charged. Sometimes though you just get the warning message you may be charged.

@Conamc10 thanks for the spam! Reported

But there is? You can cancel Uber within a few minutes of being matched for free

Lolitaorchid · 29/10/2019 19:31

Totally agree. Or they accept a job and it says ‘5 minutes away’ but you KNOW looking at the map there’s no way it will take 5 minutes, more like 10-15, yet there’s no way of cancelling without a fine Angry

DontLettuceBrexitLettuceRomain · 29/10/2019 19:32

Sorry, just noticed it's a zombie. That's the second thread @Conamc10 has dredged up with spam tonight.

Justgorgeous · 29/10/2019 20:00

The London black cabs have an app too ! They also take cards, you don’t have to have cash.

BritishHorrorStory · 29/10/2019 20:08

This whole thread is confusing. If you cancel within two minutes there is no cancellation fee Confused. I've done it loads of times if the one that has accepted are too far away for my liking.

Chloe84 · 29/10/2019 20:30

I don’t use Uber much because my local minicab firm is always cheaper than Uber but can’t you see where the driver is before you accept the driver? So if they’re 30 minutes away, don’t select them as a driver?

I never understand people who don’t have cash on them. I always have fivers and tenners.

Also if you’re disabled you may be entitled to a Taxi card which enables you to get discounted fares.

Justgorgeous · 29/10/2019 20:51

@OftenHangry. Why would you stand in the rain for 30 mins ? Stick your hand in the air and hail a cab.
