To put recycling out as rubbish?

We have a 2 alternate weekly refuse/recycling collection.

Recycling was due to be collected today but wasn’t due to an issue at the recycling centre. Message on council website said we can either take to recycling centre ourself from Friday, or wait until the next collection.

Due to Xmas/new year holidays, Next collection date is put forward to the 8th Jan.

We don’t have bins, just colour coded tie top plastic bags for refuse and each different recyclable material.

We can put out 4 bags of refuse a fortnight and no limit on recycling.

I live in a small upstairs flat. I have 4 bags of recycling already which will be added to with the cardboard and plastic at Christmas. I have nowhere to store the ones I have already, and no outside space

I only put out 1 small refuse bag a fortnight. The refuse is being collected next Monday.

Wibu to put the recycling I have into refuse bags? I feel guilty but as I said I have no space to store them - was already worrying about the extra bags we’ll accumulate anyway.

I don’t drive so can’t take them myself, and a taxi is £30 return which I can’t justify.

No, you wouldn’t be unreasonable

In the circumstances, I think it would be ok just this once. It’s so annoying when collections are missed.

Thanks. I feel a bit rubbish (pardon the pun) doing it but I don’t really have much choice.
Thanks for making me feel a bit less shit about it.

I think i would phone the council and explain what you have here and see if there is anything that they can do. If they say that there is nothing that they can do then i would put it out just this once.

It’s says on the website they’re unable to add another service on and gave the two options I mentioned. It’s difficult to speak to them as they’re only open the hours I work too. I might tweet them though.

I'm big on recycling, and I'd understand putting it in the refuse this once, it's not your fault, but if a big area is affected it won't just be you doing it.

Second the idea to phone the council, they might have a suggestion. I say might.

It is a quite a big town of just over 1000 people but I hope we don’t all resort to doing this.

I just have to hide it from my son if I do - there was a big recycling drive at his school a year or so back and he signed a ‘contract’ to say he’d never throw Something in the bin that could be recycled. He takes it very seriously 😐
