Mil refuses to come on days out with me and my children, including refusing to come to his birthday meal because she says she's not well and it would be too much for her. She recently refused my invitation to come along to Santa's grotto with us as it would be too much to wait in a queue.
Then yesterday she sent me a message and some professional photos to show that she had taken her PARROT to see Santa at a grotto! She had actually gone to a kids Christmas grotto and paid for her parrot to meet Santa and sit on his shoulder, and then paid for the photos Hmm aibu to want to make this bird into a pie so she spends time with my kids instead?!

GrinGrin That is absolutely hilarious!!!

I know you’re miffed OP but she’s not obliged to spend time with you, as much as it would be lovely if she wanted to. The Parrot just takes the biscuit though. Or the cracker!!

The parrot obviously is her baby rather than her human family.

AliceScarlett · 18/12/2018 14:08

Ha ha YANBU 😅

SwearyInn · 18/12/2018 14:09

But presumably the Parrot doesn’t go to school and so she could take him during school hours when the queue is smaller. So I think YABU :-)

Or does the parrot go to school?
In which case YANBU

Oh but does the parrot go to school and she took him out of school to see Santa? In which case your MILIBU.

Poodles1980 · 18/12/2018 14:09

What present did the parrot get?

Russiawithlove · 18/12/2018 14:11

Haha Poor Santa. Hope said parrot didn't leave him a present.Grin

CottonTailRabbit · 18/12/2018 14:13

I've been on many days out with a gaggle of children. I expect going on a day out with one parrot is a hell of a lot easier. I have some sympathy with her. Still batshit though.

GhostSauce · 18/12/2018 14:14

Thread of the day!

NancyDonahue · 18/12/2018 14:18

Cut her some slack. Presumably she did visiting Santa with her own kids. It's not always fun. Long queues, hot loud shopping centres, crying kids etc. I'm really laughing at taking the parrot to see Santa though. I hope they both enjoyed it Xmas Grin

Womantheonlykind · 18/12/2018 14:18

Who's a pretty boy then?

ShadyLady53 · 18/12/2018 14:20

Has she done this before?

This is so embarrassing...but I once had to work as an elf at a posh grotto and a man and a woman queued up with a variety of birds of prey for us to pose with.

They literally handed them to us. I have a bird phobia as did some of the other “cast members” and we were having to deal with these unpredictable, large birds who kept flapping about whilst we smiled and were cheery.

They’d queued up for ages and scared some of the children in the process.

As soon as we left we all looked at each other like 😱.

We thought they were a bit eccentric.

Maybe MIL is too?

ScrantonTheElectricCity · 18/12/2018 14:24

Yep, she is. YANBU

Feefeetrixabelle · 18/12/2018 14:28

I think you’ve just won the Internet.... please post the picture up here for us

ItIsChristmasTime · 18/12/2018 14:28

It sounds like she doesn’t want to spend time with your kids. How old are they? Quite possibly she genuinely does find it too much, too tired and really relentless.

CatLadyToddlerMother · 18/12/2018 14:29

I'm crying laughing here, best thing I've read in a while GrinGrin

Bowchicawowow · 18/12/2018 14:29

mumonashoestring · 18/12/2018 14:31

Next time she asks you for a favour, tell her to ask Polly

Bluetrews25 · 18/12/2018 14:32

WTF? Hmm
I'd give up, personally.

InvisibleLlama · 18/12/2018 14:32

We have to see the picture!

Troels · 18/12/2018 14:35

OMG she is crackers.

PumpkinKitty82 · 18/12/2018 14:36

Sounds like she’s well past being Bat shit, she’s heading into a new territory of crazy that has never been witnessed before !

BookWitch · 18/12/2018 14:37

That's hilarious.
Does the parrot get a better present than the grandkids at Christmas as well?

Best thread today Grin
