Cat sitting- Number of visits

My ex has gone away and I am cat sitting for two weeks.

I have visited every morning and evening. I feel a bit sorry for the cat and hope she doesn't get too lonely. Hopefully better than a cattery though.

Only today I am ill and not up to going around twice. I feel horrendous. Would it be ok to go just once today at lunch time?

I feel oh so guilty though. How internet do you have cat sitters if you have a cat?

I do a lot of cat sitting for a friend and she always wants me to go round twice a day which I can't always do ( she lives a half hour drive away ). There have been times I've gone round just once and as long as dry food is well topped up and big bowls of water left they are fine. It's not ideal but as you say better than being in a cattery. These cats have a cat flap and can come and go as they please and there are 3 of them so have each other for company.

Our cat sitter only comes once a day when we are away. It'll be fine.

HolesinTheSoles · 16/12/2018 10:38

When I feed the neighbours cats I just go round once a day and top up their food and water.

SpoonBlender · 16/12/2018 10:40

Once is fine, as long as food+water are sufficient, and you'll know that sort of quantity by now.

Cats really don't give much of a shit about us when we're not there. She can entertain herself - sleeping probably, or murdering small animals outdoors. Domestic cats are solitary in the wild, they can cope for a day!

We do arrange twice-a-day catsitting when we're off (or two neighbours one for morning one for evening), but it's really not essential at all, just keeps to their normal feeding routine. She'll be fine. You top up on lemsips and hide under a duvet.

Thanks.

If there were two of them I probably would not feel so bad. Just her and she is an indoor cat at the moment. He is moving next year and she isn't even one yet.

She hope she isn't too lonely.

Is the cat an indoor cat with access to a litter tray? Or else has access to a cat flap? If so then although not ideal, a one off once-a-day visit should be ok.

My lovely neighbours look after my cat when I'm away and they pop in at least a couple of times a day, but I know I'm very lucky to have neighbours who do this.

Just make sure the cat has plenty of food and water and go in as early as possible tomorrow. Hope you feel better soon.

I was cat sitting for my boyfriend earlier this year and was very poorly for a couple of the days. Instead of going over twice, for those couple of days I went over and fed them then had a sleep in his bed for a few hours while they had a cuddle with me, then I fed them again before I went home.

Thanks all. I will go at lunch time and lay in the settee for an hour. I am not getting in his bed though. Grin

It was my daughter that volunteered me for this. Over Christmas too.

Honestly most cats won't give a fuck how often they see people. If they are fed then that's good enough for them.

CountessOfNowhere · 16/12/2018 12:48

Sorry, didn't notice it's your ex - a snooze on the settee it is then!

madcatladyforever · 16/12/2018 12:54

In previous years when I hired a cat sitter I only asked her to go in once a day.
Cats are perfectly happy on their own as long as they are warm and cosy and have everything they need.
They are not like dogs.

Confusedbeetle · 16/12/2018 12:56

Once a day is plenty. They need food and water and a place to pee

stopitandtidyupp · 16/12/2018 13:06

Thanks I have just spent an hour there. My Dad is going back tomorrow morning. I will go after work.

I hope she isn't too bored and lonely. If she was a dog I don't think I could handle the guilt.

Once a day is fine.

I’ve got a cat cam and my cat seems more restless, stompy and patrolling after someone’s been in to feed her. She’s much more relaxed with just one visitor a day.

Caterina99 · 16/12/2018 15:00

Our cat sitter only comes once a day. Cats are not like dogs, they do not care as long as they are fed!
