To still want to hide from the window cleaner?

So I used to have this system where if the window cleaner came on my day off I would stop drop and roll behind the sofa until he shoved a leaflet through the door and left
Then we moved the sofa so I would slide down the sofa, army crawl to under the window
Now I have a 5 month old that gives me away all the time rolling round in the middle of the floor, how inconsiderate!!

Have you considered closing the curtains? The image of you hiding from the window cleaner is hilarious! Reminds me a bit of Karl Pilkington's technique of sitting perfectly still and pretending not to be in even though the visitors could clearly see them Grin

KathrynOfArrogance · 13/12/2018 17:04

He always scuttles I'm from the left so by time I see him the ladders are up and it's too late!!

KathrynOfArrogance · 13/12/2018 17:04

Scuttles in, not I'm, I'm not from the left, I'm from the north

I used to sit on the landing and hide until I realised the angle of my bedroom mirror meant he could see me

VickyEadie · 13/12/2018 17:10

Tell me why you're hiding from the window cleaner?

Aquamarine1029 · 13/12/2018 17:11

Why can't you let him see you? Honestly, he doesn't even care if you're there or not. He just wants to get his job done and leave.

chilledteacher · 13/12/2018 17:13

I do this too! 😂

ApolloandDaphne · 13/12/2018 17:14

I hate the window cleaner seeing me too. No idea why. He comes with two lads so there is no escaping apart from sitting in the downstairs loo! I am always very pleased if he comes when i am out!.

Housingcraze · 13/12/2018 17:15

My DP walks around naked and forgets and runs into kitchen 😂😂😂

ThomasHardyPerennial · 13/12/2018 17:24

Mine has caught dh on the loo before Grin. I just wave at him, or open the door and pay what I owe.

LuckyAmy1986 · 13/12/2018 17:25

@cowfacemonkey that really made me laugh!!

RaspberryRipple1963 · 13/12/2018 17:30

Have you considered drawing the curtains while he's there? Grin

KathrynOfArrogance · 13/12/2018 17:44

As I said previous the way he scuttles makes me unable to close curtains in time!
And I hide because I have no reason to talk to him, he ALWAYS knocks on the door, I pay him by bank transfer fgs I need no idle chit chat

I was overdue with my first, the midwife came round to give me a sweep. We set up in the living room (back of the house, large glass doors to garden) on the floor with a towel down in case waters broke. Bloody window cleaner showed up in the middle of it.

I hid from him after that.

KathrynOfArrogance · 13/12/2018 17:51

@KennDodd Jesus Doddy I had a sweep in my front room thought never even entered my mind! He might of stopped knocking if he had seen that though Hmm

Thank god it's not just me.

It's awkward.

KennDodd · 13/12/2018 17:55

We were right in front of the window as well, about two feet away, side on, tee-shirt, no pants (obviously) midwifes hand right up my fanny. He looked as shocked as us. He didn't stand there and clean the window at least!

KathrynOfArrogance · 13/12/2018 18:44

@KennDodd if you had gone in to labour an had a boy you could of called him George after George formby ha

I hide from ours. I've successfully hidden in the bedroom with the curtains shut the last 2 times but I hate it when he catches me off guard. He's often here when I arrive back from the morning school run so I just walk on past 😂 He's due this week and every night I'm thinking I hope he comes tomorrow and gets it over with! Some nights I'd love to leave the dishwasher for the morning etc but I can't because I don't want him to think we live in a pig sty!! He's so aggressive I hate answering the door to him and I never know what to do when they're appearing at every window. He gives me the creeps.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 13/12/2018 22:29

I don’t hide. I look him in the eye as I lick the teaspoon and knife I’ve squeezed the tea bag and sliced the cake with before I hand it over.

I don’t really obviously, but why are you all hiding from the window cleaner? Is this like the mumsnet not answering the door, unless someone has booked weeks in advance, thing?

Dotty1970 · 13/12/2018 22:31

I do this! I don't know why really🤔😁

LashesZ · 13/12/2018 22:32

I was woken from a very hungover sleep by the tapping of the squeegee. Unfortunately I was starfished out face up on my bed with just my knickers on. I was still a bit too drunk to care so just thumbs upped him Blush

Meralia · 13/12/2018 22:37

Ha! I do this, I don’t know why though? I used to just hide in my bedroom with my blind shut, but now I have a 17 month old I’m visible.

My window cleaner pissed in my garden once.

KathrynOfArrogance · 14/12/2018 03:06

I don't know why we all do it but glad it isn't just me
Seems like one of those unwritten rules Grin

@Meralia these children are giving us away!

I do it! But now he has one of those pole things and doesn't use ladders. So you are pretty safe upstairs. I also pay him on my mobile.
