To go to the gynaecologist today

I’ve got an appointment with the gynaecologist this morning to have a lumpy rash (not sinister) checked on my vulva. Problem is, Sod’s Law that today is the first day or one of my periods from hell! Think changing the tampon every hour and having to wear a pad as well. My periods are really irregular (I have PCOS and what I think is the start of perimenopause) so there was no way I could know that my period would fall on the appointment date. I’ve waited 12 weeks for the appointment and have taken a day off work for it.

I am embarrassed to turn up with such a horrible and unpredictable period but don’t really want to have to rearrange. Also my appointment is at 9.45 so it’s really too late anyway.

I guess I’m not BU but can anyone give me any tips to get through this?

I would ring ahead and just mention it. Wear a tampon or mooncup. Gynaecologists deal with blood all the time 👍 even my GP still did a smear when I was bleeding as my period wouldn't stop. Call ahead and check if your worried but I'm almost certain they won't be bothered

Change tampon a couple of minutes before you go in. Bring baby wipes to freshen yourself up.

I don’t think it will be a problem. Give yourself time to go to the loo just before you go in so you can change your tampon and freshen up.

I had laser treatment for pre cancerous cells on my cervix and the letter said not to cancel if you had your period as they could still do it. Of course I got my period. My carefully laid plans to have a female gynae fell apart as she got stuck in traffic and I ended up with a very handsome French Male doctor. He finished by saying ‘I’ve popped a tampon in for you.’ I was mortified then at 24. Now at 54 I would be less bothered!
