To think this is massively inappropriate (Driving instructor)

Driving lesson today, I should add that my instructor and his wife live next door, he was bad mouthing his wife to me calling her an Evil cow and nasty b-word and saying he wants to trade her in for a younger model!

I don’t see either of them aside from the occasional hello outside my house and the wife occasionally because of her job in the community. I have thought in the past that he has been slightly leery and trying to make suggestive comments but these have been shut down quickly by me. This to me is beyond inappropriate though, especially the comment about a younger model as I am significantly younger than him and a car is a confined space!

AIBU to get a different instructor and tell him exactly why?!

Of course yanbu. Why on earth did you even agree to lessons with him?? Hmm

Bambini12 · 11/12/2018 15:00

I had no knowledge of what he was like before I started lessons, I tried to brush off the comments and told myself that he couldn’t have meant them in that way but now it’s very clear.

Get a new instructor. You need to be able to relax and trust your teacher when you’re learning. He’s horrible Shock

Alfie190 · 11/12/2018 15:13

Yes new instructor.

NoShelfElf · 11/12/2018 16:22

I'm guessing you're younger than his wife? I don't think being alone in a car with someone who makes you feel uncomfortable is a good idea. I'm sure you can easily find another driving instructor who is calm and professional. His poor wife Confused

Bambini12 · 11/12/2018 17:05

I’m about 20 years younger than them both. His wife is my neighbor and is lovely as far as I can tell.
It’s the lack of respect for women, both me in his car and his wife who he is bad mouthing, that’s got my back up.

He sounds pretty awful. But I get that it'll be awkward to 'sack' him as he's still a neighbour.

  1. sack him and tell him the real reason
  2. sack him and make an excuse why
  3. no sacking, continue with a man you're uncomfortable with

I'd opt for 1.

HopeAndJoy16 · 11/12/2018 17:10

Get rid!! He sounds like a vile man. I once had a driving instructor who got proper road rage at other drivers and made me feel really uncomfortable, i cancelled my lessons and found a really lovely ( and calm!) Instructor. You don't need to give any reason for cancelling, it's your money and you don't owe him anything.

BoglingToAswad · 11/12/2018 17:11

Always trust your instincts if you feel uncomfortable. He sounds horrible and I would definitely get a new instructor.

Ohyesiam · 11/12/2018 17:12

Sack him.

BoglingToAswad · 11/12/2018 17:13

Also you can report him to the DVSA.
