Why aren’t life sentences life sentences?

IMO anyone who’s murdered more than one person should never be released.

That's truly shocking.

Unfortunately, parole boards seem to be more concerned with the 'rights' of violent criminals to be allowed back into society than the right of society to be protected from violent criminals.

If he repeats his crime, or some version of it, no doubt the parole board will issue a 'heart felt' apology to the family of the victims.

It's happened before and doubtless it'll happen again.

I'm against capital punishment, because I think it demeans society. But life should mean life. This man should never even be considered for release, let alone actually step foot outside prison gates again.

Life can't mean life at the point of sentencing. A life sentence must have the possibility of review - a parole board.

Parole boards are only concerned with whether the inmate poses a risk if released.

Indeed, that's what a parole board has to consider, the risk if the prisoner is released.

Unfortunately, when they get it wrong, which they do from time to time, the results can be catastrophic for any subsequent victims and their families.

With some murderers that risk is too great a price for society to pay, and they should never be given the benefit of the doubt.

He should not be released. There is a petition.

this is so shocking you have to question what they are thinking.

I’m in favour of capital punishment in cases like this... where guilt is so clear cut and the crime so abhorrent. I really think he should have been hanged all this years ago, and then the children’s mother would never have had to suffer the pain of him walking free as she now is. I know we won’t bring capital punishment back, but I do think it’s warranted in his case.

Anyone who commits pre-meditated murder should never be released. You take a life, your life is taken. End of.

This literally happened 2 minutes from where I live. Absolutely disgusting and he should never be let out. Life needs to mean life
