To ask how to play music?

Hi, I'd like to get dh a sound system for the house so he can play music from his phone or so we can play it from the tv, but I actually don't have a clue where to start. Should I get one of these Alexa things or some sort of tv attachment? I don't have a clue and don't want to spend much xx

Well how much?

Pinkyyy · 08/12/2018 08:33

A wireless Bluetooth speaker sounds perfect for what you want. I love mine and you can move it wherever you want in the house. This is mine and it's great sound quality and really loud and I actually paid much more than this for it, but that was over a year ago.

It depends on your budget...

confusedandemployed · 08/12/2018 08:38

Second Bluetooth speakers and a subscription to Amazon Music or similar.

Greedycushionhoarder2 · 08/12/2018 08:40

My favourite thing in our house are the Bluetooth speaker bulbs, we have one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom, the sound is pretty good quality, no plus or ugly wires it just acres in like a normal bulb, you can get bayonet ones too, you just turn the light on and search for it on the Bluetooth setting on your phone then click connect, the ones have are really easy to use, my phone just connects and disconnects automatically now, they also cube with a remote for volume and to dim the light, we've just had builders in doing some work and they were amazed by them, so cheap too, we paid ,£8 per bulb on eBay.

hiddeneverythin · 08/12/2018 08:46

A Bluetooth speaker bulb????? Wow - technology has fairly moved on!!!

Can any of these be heard through the whole house if need be (standard sized house I'd say!)?

Wow my mind is absolutely blown by the speaker bulb!!! Amazing!!!

Talk to me about Alexa/amazon echo? Would they play music?

OP posts:
Pinkyyy · 08/12/2018 09:24

Alexa can play music but the one I had wasn't loud enough to fill the house. I think they do more expensive ones that are probably louder but it's going to be more expensive than a speaker

Bluntness100 · 08/12/2018 10:18

They have the next Gen echo dot on sale for 25 quid and it's really loud.and a decent speaker.

TwoBlueFish · 08/12/2018 10:26

Get a couple of echo or google home speakers. One for upstairs and one for down. The Amazon echos you can broadcast the music so it plays on both speakers at once. You’d also probably want a subscription to one of the music streaming services (Amazon music, Spotify, etc)

CrispbuttyNo1 · 08/12/2018 10:29

We got a Bluetooth sound-bar for the tv and you can play music through it from your phone too. I’ve also got a DAB radio which is Bluetooth as well.

hiddeneverythin · 09/12/2018 07:59

I think I'm going to go for the lightbulbs, simply because I'm so amazed by their existence.

We love Sonos systems. Sound quality is amazing and you can start with one speaker then build up and add more in at a later date if you want. Comes with Alexa now too. The play 1 would probably be perfect for what you want.

Bluntness100 · 09/12/2018 08:54

I don't think they really act like a bulb though op, they are quite dim, and of course woild need to be repurchased when they blow.

Pinkyyy · 09/12/2018 09:49

I don't like the idea of a speaker bulb, just doesn't seem ultra safe to me

sanpelle · 09/12/2018 10:06

Don't get a SONOS system if you need it to be easy to use! FIL spent over £1000 on some and I can't even figure out how to make them connect via Bluetooth instead of the ugly app. The app is hideous and almost unusable. Not worth the money at all

The Bowers and Wilkins Zeppelin is my favourite speaker of all time! Worth it if you can spare that much, the sound quality is insane

hiddeneverythin · 09/12/2018 19:35

I really don't have a clue about any of this so this is all very helpful

If you have access to a YouTube app you can use your phone as a remote which is fun!

hiddeneverythin · 09/12/2018 22:23

@Meangirls36 using what system? That's unbelievable. I'm not an old person / just completely unaware of technology

Xbox and Spotify.

Meangirls36 · 09/12/2018 22:48

You got a smart TV? If you've got now TV go to the app store and download YouTube then download YouTube app on your phone . Then open the app on the TV and go down on the menu to settings and follow instructions to link your phone. If my instructions are unclear search google. Google will tell you pretty much anything these days. The library will give you a computer literacy course if you are completely stumped.

Meangirls36 · 09/12/2018 22:49

Spotify has better music will also link apps between phones a smart TV or Xbox.

Meangirls36 · 09/12/2018 22:51

What type of phone have you got what TV / gaming system do you have? Do you have a tablet or a smart phone? If its apple I won't have a clue but the people in the apple store are very over paid to help you with anything.

Meangirls36 · 09/12/2018 22:57

If you want to spend some serious cash you can have speakers and most of your appliances and lights connected to a home hub with added security. Its basically a tablet remote for the whole house. Bose speakers are insanely good and YouTube has most records in HD. Sorry I'm rambling! :)

Meangirls36 · 09/12/2018 22:59

Wow those bluetooth speakers sound good but I'm not sure the upstairs neighbours would appreciate it
