Help me not be such a mum on a night out?

Ok the title is a bit light-hearted but we've not had a night out in over a year (DC's ) and an unexpected last minute opportunity popped up for tomorrow.
Conveniently I've got a hairdressers appointment booked in the morning and DP will be taking the DC's and sending me off shopping to treat myself to a nice outfit/do my nails etc.

He knows I've been feeling really frumpy and "mumsy" lately, living in food covered jeans and snot crusted into baggy jumpers does that to you. I've only recently finished BF our DC2 and I haven't bought myself any clothes in ages.

I'm around a size 10/12 depending on the shop and I'm 26.

We will be going out for a meal at a tapas place and then for a few drinks down a lovely "posh" village with a group of very well dressed friends. I think jeans/skirt and nice top would be fab.
I want to feel good about myself but I feel like I've completely lost my sense of style and it's making me feel rather anxious about tomorrow and would love some help and links from you lovely Mumsnetters pointing me in the direction of some lovely clothes.

I'd wear something like this with black skinny jeans and a nice pair of heels. With a red lipstick and a red clutch bad for a pop of colour.

Maybe find a top that has a bit of sparkle in it - there are a few sparkly jumpers out there. Also wear some lovely makeup and perfume. Listen to some fab music as you get ready to get yourself into the vibe - make getting ready part of the unmumsy fun!

When I was out last week, there were lots of glitter tops, sequin tops and dresses, jumpsuits, or skinny jeans and a party top. Have a great night

What was your style before kids?

We could point you towards lots of lovely things but none might be "you".

cheshireagain · 07/12/2018 20:47

If you want to feel less mumsy I'd steer clear of the "jeans and a nice top".

Consider a swing dress and over the knee boots

A dress with ankle boots

A velvet jumpsuit

Be brave!!!

What about a pleated midi skirt leather/velvet and Stan Smith style trainers and a nice t-shirt top, or leather mini skirt and funky top with ankle boots. Maybe break out of the jeans rut if it makes you feel better?

Ok so way before having any DCs I would live in a leather jacket and military boots preferably with a highish heel - I would wear a winged liner and think I'm a ''badass''

On nights out I would go for a LBD and also loved backless things (which is now impossible due to knee lenght pancake boobs - thanks DC1 and 2).

I'd love to feel a bit ''cool'' though so don't want to play it too safe but also don't want to overdo it as it's just a few drinks not a full blown get drunk and party all night kind of thing.
I do own some over the knee leather boots from Dune?

And I promise they actually look 100% better IRL and have some texture and less shinyness.

Do you still have a leather jacket? I would wear that with the knee high boots, jeans and 'nice top'.

Rocknroller85 · 08/12/2018 01:48

What crabby said but top wise thinking maybe a black silky cami? River island have some. Maybe a chunky watch or statement metal earrings.

I'm 52 and mum of a 17 yr old and a 20 yr old,
I saw this this morning, I love it..
But I wear what I want, as long as I'm comfortable, don't give a hoot about what others might think Grin

If it was me I'd steer clear of jumpsuits! Nightmare when going to loo ( mind you I'm the type of person once I've had more than 2 drinks I need frequent wees! So I could be slightly biased.....)
