It's 1am and I've just finished work to head to bed! Each night afte kids r in bed I work (unpaid) til 1am. I am exhausted, but I can't fit everything into my working day :( wish I could leave and do something else ...

Why do you work unpaid? Definitely leave and do ANYTHING else.
I finished work 5 hours ago but have insomnia and no you can't go on like this you will burn out.

masterstef · 07/12/2018 01:18

I'll be up until 4am as my baby wakes every 40 mins. Then I'll hand over to dh and get 3 hours sleep before another long day.
It totally sucks OP, do you want to run off together and find a quiet hotel and just sleep?

Disquieted1 · 07/12/2018 01:27

I found this helpful -
Think of life as being like a pie. You fill so much up with family, you fill a bit more with work, a bit more with relationships, a bit more with all the other shit that comes your way and hopefully you have a tiny bit left for you.
But when the pie is full, it's full. There is no space free for anything else.

Not very insightful, I know.

SD1978 · 07/12/2018 01:33

@recklessruby- OP is referring to family obligations as unpaid. Not out of home employment.

ILoveautumnleaves · 07/12/2018 01:36

No she’s not SD.

ILoveautumnleaves · 07/12/2018 01:38

Im. Are you a teacher?

halfwitpicker · 07/12/2018 01:39

What autumn leaves said?

TheWiseWomansFear · 07/12/2018 01:44

You need to speak to your employer, I get that it's hard but this is unreasonable... unless it's in your contract you have a right to say hey need to employ more people

ImExhausted · 07/12/2018 07:20

Thanks all! I'm just so so tired! I probably do need to leave. I have to do something as I'm really struggling

Must be a teacher!

Leonie87 · 07/12/2018 07:59

Yes because teachers are the only ones with heavy workloads.

I’m a solicitor in a private firm. I’ve been doing the same thing over the past year and it’s hellish. It’s especially bad at this time of year. Everyone wants everything to compete before Christmas. November and December are absolutely insane.

Timeforabiscuit · 07/12/2018 08:00

You can do it for short bursts, as long as you have downtime afterwards. Can you have the conversation at work about what your doing and see what you can realistically scale back?

Everything looks and feels worse at 1am, you are clearly hardworking, you are committed, you are valued - I hope you get some space soon.

LucyMorningStar · 07/12/2018 08:03

I bet you're a teacher. Hang I there, only 2 weeks to go!

Leonie, don't solicitors charge like a million pounds for half a second of their time?

Leonie87 · 07/12/2018 08:34

Many charge out rate is £235 per hour. Do you think that’s what I get paid?!

ImExhausted · 07/12/2018 21:50

Not a teacher! :)

dancinfeet · 07/12/2018 21:55

I get you completely. I am the same, go to bed around 1 am and get up at 6.30am most days. All unpaid work - I'm a dance teacher, and the unpaid stuff is time spent on accounts, class planning, finding / cutting / editing music, looking online for projects and opportunities for my dancers to perform at, organising my next session of exams, or planning every aspect of my next show. I also teach for 30 hrs + a week, which is the 'work time' that I do get paid for (though not particularly well). The joys of being self employed!

Laiste · 07/12/2018 21:58

We can only advise if we know the job :)
