How do I break my take out addiction?!

I've had a stone to lose for the better part of 6 months. I firmly believe take out food is what's keeping it on me. I eat take out 1-2 times a week. I get very little enjoyment from it, I feel like crap after it, I can't afford it but I keep bloody doing it and I don't know how to stop! I'll do it even when I have other food there and ready to go.

I know the health benefits, I know I'll feel better, I know it's more environmentally friendly. I've deleted the apps of my phone for ordering only to reinstall them later. I've never had trouble giving up anything, except this. How the hell do I change it? Help!

Do you have other, easy to sort food available? It will be easier to resist if the alternative isn’t a chore!

Is the food you have in tasty?

What is it you're ordering? Burgers/pizza/curry?

Learn to cook versions of your take out. I don't have take aways any more not true, but I certainly have less because I can cook a curry /Chinese / pizza that's nicer than the take out. And faster in most cases! It'll naturally be healthier, and portion sizes will be better.

Sounds like you are deliberately sabotaging yourself. Any idea why?

Teachtolive · 06/12/2018 23:46

The food I have is plenty easy and nice. I switch between pizza and Chinese food. I always order ice cream with the pizza, that's definitely a weak spot for me. Cant think of Any reason why I would sabotage myself. I was very happy with my pre-pregnancy body and I want it back! I've even held off buying bigger clothes cos I don't want to get complacent but the take out thing is just ridiculous!

Change your settings on your phone so that you need your partner to enter a PIN or thumbprint before you can download the apps or access the relevant websites?
Put as many hurdles in your path as you can.

Choose something to save for- new pair jeans, flight to somewhere exotic. Every time you want Ta food. Put the money in a tin towards what you want to buy

Each time you manage to resist, put the cost of the takeaway into a jar. After 6 months you'll be able to buy yourself an amazing treat. Keep doing it for a year and you'll be able to go on holiday.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. The thing I can't get my head around is the fact that I know this, i mean if it's 1 takeaway a week, I know it's a grand a year! There's a million things I could use that for, why can't I stop myself though? That's what I really want/need to know? I almost feel like a smoker- I know it's bad for me, I know it's expensive, I get no pleasure from it, but I can't stop!
