I had my big toe nail removed just over a week ago and since Saturday/Sunday it’s been feeling quite sore and as if something is biting it.... I am following the instructions and salt water bathing and redressing every two days but does this look infected?

I had 3 courses of antibiotics in the month preceding the treatment so don’t want to jump to that again unless needed but my podiatrist and GP both said to just call for them if needed..

So apologies but does this look infected?

Yes, at least get GP to look at it

FaithInfinity · 04/12/2018 22:47

Yes I agree that needs to be seen. It can wait til the morning but I would get it seen tomorrow.

forkinghellmate · 04/12/2018 22:49

The redness at the cuticle of the toe indicates infection.

If you can, draw a line along where the redness is just now at the cuticle and if it’s moved past the line in the morning I’d wager that it’s infected.

The yellow on the nail bed looks like pus as well.

Ringsender2 · 04/12/2018 22:50

It does look infected, sorry. I would try TCP baths at least twice a day also. And keeping open to air/drying as much as possible.

Yes, I had my ingrown nail removed in August and it looked similar. It was very infected and needed antibiotics and salt soaking every day

Thanks everyone.... I was hoping I was reading too much into it but it looks like it’s a trip to the GP again Sad

gettingbacktoresearch · 05/12/2018 06:58

Do you think it’ll be okay to wait until tomorrow (Thursday) or should I try and get an emergency appointment at GP today (Wednesday)?

OP posts:
GaryBaldbiscuit · 05/12/2018 07:00

do you not have a nurse appointment?

gettingbacktoresearch · 05/12/2018 07:04

I’m due to see the podiatrist for a follow up appointment next Tuesday and my GP has an appointment available that I can book online tomorrow. Can’t see nurse appointments to book unfortunately but I could call to see if any are available later

You need an appointment ASAP - an antibiotics! Please ring your GP practise first thing and get an emergency appointment. You don't want mess around and leave it untreated any longer.

gettingbacktoresearch · 05/12/2018 12:15

Well I managed to see the nurse this morning and yes, infected so back on antibiotics :( thanks everyone for encouraging me
